  • Patent number: 7258920
Abstract: A pre-fiber composition is disclosed herein that includes: a) a first fiber constituent having a first melting point; b) a second fiber constituent having a second melting point; and c) a gelling agent that solvates at least one of the first fiber constituent or the second fiber constituent, wherein the gelling agent significantly reduces co-polymerization of either of the constituents in the composition. A fiber is also disclosed herein that includes: a) at least two amide-based polymers, each having a melting point, wherein the melting point of one amide-based polymer is dissimilar to the melting point of a second amide-based polymer; and b) a gelling agent that is compatible with at least one of the amide-based polymers, wherein the fiber comprises two differentiatable melting points that are substantially similar to the melting points of each of the amide-based polymers.

  • Patent number: 6753082
Abstract: Novel fibers having improved liquid absorption capacity combined with the ability to provide a dry feeling even when nearly saturated. The fibers are expected to be useful in diverse applications such as diapers, incontinent briefs, feminine hygiene napkins, tampons, surgical sponges, wound dressings, towels, separation of oil from the surface of water, and the containment or collection of oil in industrial installations.

  • Publication number: 20040071963
Abstract: Novel filaments and yarns for carpets, upholstery and other applications, the spinneret and method for their production and carpets manufactured therefrom. The filaments of the invention are solid multi-lobal filaments of complex convex-concave surface contour possessing low luster, low moment of inertia, high color intensity upon dyeing and high covering power. Carpets manufactured therefrom possess low luster, soft hand, high covering power and high body suitable for premium residential application. The filaments of the invention are produced at high throughput and productivity by the method of the invention.

  • Patent number: 5322736
Abstract: This invention relates to a trilobal filament having at least one axially extending void, preferably one axially extending void in each lobe, wherein each lobe has a composite curve profile having a first arm angle .alpha. and a second arm angle .beta., the cross-section has a modification ratio of 2.4 to 5.0, and the total cross-sectional area is 5 to 15 percent void. In a further aspect, this invention is a spinnerette for producing a filament comprising at least one bore group, wherein the bore group has three legs divergent from each other by 130.degree. to 150.degree. and each leg includes two substantially parallel capillary sections and one nipple capillary section which extends to the outermost point of each leg.
