  • Patent number: 4199861
Abstract: End play control construction to regulate the end play of a shaft of an electric motor between an end bearing and the rotor secured to said shaft, which comprises a bushing secured to the shaft adjacent the rotor and having an annular outwardly facing slot, a thrust collar slip fitted on the shaft and having an annular projection axially aligned with the slot in the bushing and disposed in final position in mashed engagement with the bushing by an ultrasonic horn under controlled conditions with an ultrasonic weld joining the bushing and thrust collar together to thereby space the assembled bushing and collar from the bearing of the order of 0.003 to 0.018 inches to establish a minimal amount of end play of the shaft. In a second embodiment of the invention the annular slot is in the thrust collar and is disposed in axial alignment with the annular projection in the bushing.

  • Patent number: 4161667
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for supporting an electric motor within a blower housing which is an integral part of the electric motor supplied to the blower manufacturer and has a plurality of brackets secured in circumferentially spaced relation welded to the motor housing. The brackets each have an arm with a reverse bend which provides additional length to each bracket increasing the ability of the brackets to flex and isolate vibration of the motor from the blower housing.

  • Patent number: 3940646
Abstract: A single-phase induction motor provides a plurality of serially connected main winding coils and a plurality of corresponding auxiliary winding coils each spaced in quadrature from a corresponding main winding coil. Each auxiliary winding coil is energized by the current induced in a serially connected pick-up coil located within a stator slot containing the quadrature main winding coil in response to the energization of the main winding coil for providing a starting torque to the rotor. Each auxiliary coil contains a first predetermined number of turns wound in a first direction within one stator slot and a second predetermined number of turns wound in a second direction located in an adjacent stator slot for increasing the resistance-to-reactance ratio. Each pick-up coil contains approximately one-half the turns of each auxiliary coil which, in turn, has a substantially lesser number of turns than each main coil.
