  • Patent number: 9028935
Abstract: This invention relates to a liquid-filled tetrahedral package having a longitudinal fin seal and having a first transverse seal on one end of the package and a second transverse seal on the opposite end of the package, wherein the first and second transverse seals are substantially perpendicular to one another.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 2010
Date of Patent: May 12, 2015
    Assignee: Milliken & Company
Inventors: Bernhard Zeiler, Charles D. Buis, Neal Burgess, James A. Renninger, John B. Manly, Jr.
  • Patent number: 9027314
Abstract: Provided herein is a liquid-filled, non-reclosable tetrahedral or pillow-shaped packaging container having a longitudinal fin seal and a pair of transverse seals. In the case of tetrahedral packages, the transverse seals are perpendicular to one another. Also provided herein is an apparatus for the formation of such fin seals as part of a continuous packaging and filling operation. A third aspect of the apparatus of the present disclosure is the development of a heated jaw that exhibits consistent heating across the jaw face. Yet another feature of the apparatus of the present disclosure is provided in a modified, closed-loop electrical system for real-time monitoring and adjustment of the temperatures of the heated jaws, as they are moving.

  • Patent number: 5727366
Abstract: Registration system for a continuously operating machine which produces a filled package with an upper and lower seal which automatically adjusts position and the speed of the packaging material being supplied and also adjusts the speed after a preselected number of position adjustments in either direction.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5305504
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a scrim with fibers oriented in the bias direction comprising of at least two belts and at least one plate which forms a three dimensional mandrel over which the bias scrim is formed. The plate is shaped so that any cross-section taken perpendicularly to the direction of travel of the scrim, the perimeter of the scrim formed by fibers wrapped around the machine in the plane of the cross-section is constant. This constant is equal to twice the final width of the scrim from selvedge to selvedge. The scrim is formed by wrapping fibers around the front of the assembly while the belts move toward the rear end of the machine. The movement of the belts carry the fibers to the rear of the assembly as they are wrapped around the assembly. The belts travel at substantially the same speed in opposite directions. The ratio of the speed that the fibers are wrapped around the assembly and the speed of the belts determine the fiber angle of the bias scrim.
