Patent number: 5435127Abstract: An ejecting exhaust nozzle in a gas turbine engine includes a convergent section, a divergent section, extending downstream from the convergent section, and an ejector for ejecting an airflow into the core airflow is fed by a boost pump. The boost pump includes a flow mixer with a boost plane wherein a fan airflow is injected into a ram airflow and then mixed in a mixing section extending downstream from the boost plane. Varying the fan airflow to boost the ram airflow to control a boosted ram airflow pressure allows ejector operation throughout the flight envelope of the gas turbine engine.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1993Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ronald J. Patent number: 5351888Abstract: A convergent-divergent exhaust nozzle is mounted to an exhaust duct of a jet aircraft engine by a circumferentially-spaced set of hydraulic cylinders. The cylinders are interconnected in captured flow via hydraulic circuits which allow the cylinders to function as a gimbal mounting. This mounting allows the entire nozzle to vector the exhaust without additionally loading the divergent flaps with vectored exhaust so that cool, low pressure ram air can be channeled directly to the divergent flaps for efficient cooling.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1993Date of Patent: October 4, 1994Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: John B. Taylor, Dudley O. Nash

Patent number: 5265368Abstract: An improved fishing lure is provided having the capability of simulating various live bait movements. In one embodiment, the lure includes a generally hollow lure body, a first port for admitting fluid into the lure body, a second port for allowing fluid to escape from the lure body and a valve located in the lure body which is moveable to a first position at which the first port is open and the second port is closed in response to a pulling force exerted on the lure by a fisherman, whereby water is allowed to enter the lure body through the first port and is inhibited from escaping from the lure body through the second port. The valve is moveable to a second position at which the first port is closed and second port is open in response to the absence of the pulling force, whereby fluid is allowed to escape from the lure body through the second port, but is inhibited from escaping through the first port.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1992Date of Patent: November 30, 1993Inventor: John B. Patent number: 5235808Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for spoiling thrust from combustion gases discharged from an aircraft gas turbine engine at ground idle operating condition. The method comprises the step of positioning a secondary exhaust flap of the exhaust nozzle to form a diffuser for the combustion gases at the ground idle operating condition for maintaining attachment of the combustion gases along the secondary exhaust flaps for spoiling thrust. An exemplary and preferred exhaust nozzle is provided wherein the secondary exhaust flaps are positionable in part independently of primary exhaust flaps so that the primary and secondary flaps may be disposed together in different positions during ground idle, dry, and augmented operating conditions of the engine.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1992Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: John B. Patent number: 5065334Abstract: Received signals preferably have a stable frequency spectrum over a frequency span derived from a resolution bandpass filter. Furthermore, the frequency span has a plurality of discrete frequency measurements across the frequency span. It is desired to determine which of the discrete frequencies correspond to peaks in the frequency spectrum. Each peak is integrated to initially determine which of the peaks are from narrowband continuous wave signals by comparing the aspect ratio of the peaks with the aspect ratio of a resolution bandpass filter. Those peaks which fail the aspect ratio test are discarded from the frequency spectrum. The remaining peaks are then fitted to a second order polynomial curve to finally determine whether they are due to narrowband continuous wave signals. The peaks which do not fit the curve are labeled as broadband.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1989Date of Patent: November 12, 1991Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: John B. Taylor, Michael K. Patent number: 4976102Abstract: A gas turbine engine having a core for generating combustion gases, a power turbine, an unducted fan section and a booster compressor. The power turbine includes two counterrotating turbine blade rows which are interdigitized and serve to rotate counterrotating first and second drive shafts, respectively. The unducted fan section also includes counterrotating spaced apart variable pitch fan blade rows which are respectively connected to the first and second drive shafts. A booster compressor is axially positioned between the spaced apart fan blade rows. The booster compressor likewise includes first and second blade rows which are counterrotating and interdigitated and are likewise driven by the first and second drive shafts. The engine is supported by two stationary support frames to permit the nacelle to be nonstructural. The core engine is a modular unit so that it can be separable from the rest of the engine.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1988Date of Patent: December 11, 1990Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventor: John B. Patent number: 4859933Abstract: A test method and apparatus to aid a site operator in discriminating between signals measured at different times, as well as enabling a level of automation which is appropriate using state-of-the-art instrumentation for performing EMI measurements, such as open-site EMI measurements. Preferably, discrimination between the two signals is based on the two signals being separated by at least a frequency E defined as:E=2(frequency span/N)+K * RBWwhere:E=possible frequency error of a signal; frequency span=frequency range swept by a measuring receiver, for example, a spectrum analyzer;N=number of points measured;RBW=resolution bandwidth of a resolving bandpass filter of the measuring receiver; andK=constant less than or equal to one to account for unknown signal characteristics. With the specific application to open-site EMI measurements, preferably signals are allowed to be falsely detected as separate signals in order to take into account unknown signal characteristics, i.e., 1 RBW.fwdarw.K * RBW.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1988Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: John B. Patent number: 4432136Abstract: A disposable safety razor is provided with coupling means by which a plurality of such razors can be assembled into a stack, one behind another. Each razor handle is formed with a downwardly directed hook and an upwardly directed hook on its front and rear faces, respectively, and with a resilient latch member formed by a resilient arm extending downwardly and rearwardly of the handle and spaced from the hooks and terminating at a catch. The handle also has a ledge formed at the same level as the catch. Two adjacent razors are firmly but releasably coupled together by interengagement of the respective hooks and of the catch with its ledge. The resilient arm yields to permit deliberate disengagement of the catch from the ledge, permitting, in turn, disengagement of the hooks.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1982Date of Patent: February 21, 1984Assignee: The Gillette CompanyInventor: John B. Taylor

Patent number: 4237919Abstract: An antisiphon air gap arrangement is disclosed acting as a vacuum breaker for the water supply to a dishwasher, including a partitioned, bilevel standpipe extending upwardly from the dishwasher tub bottom. One section of the standpipe acts as a maximum flood level establishing overflow drain, while the other section extends to a level in the tub above the so-established flood level, and receives a fill tube from the inlet water supply valve. A domed cover mounted to the tub bottom extends over the partitioned standpipe to prevent escape of overspray from the dishwasher through the standpipe, while openings about the bottom enable fill water to pass into the tub. The fill tube passes through the other section of the partitioned standpipe opening with a clearance space, through which air from the exterior of the dishwasher is drawn whenever suction conditions in the house plumbing occur.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1979Date of Patent: December 9, 1980Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: John G.
