Abstract: The invention relates to a teaching system that includes a module for creating and using behavioral profiles of students. The behavioral profile is developed by capturing and processing passive data from the student's computer as they are studying an on-line lesson or taking a test (assessment). In addition, the behavioral profile of a specific student can be used for comparison against longitudinal behavioral profiles of other students in order to recommend learning resources or strategies to the specific student. The recommendation may be based on the similarities between the behavioral profile of the specific student and those of the longitudinal behavioral profile of the other students, and the effective learning resources or strategies associated with the longitudinal behavioral profiles of the other students.

Abstract: The invention relates to creating a set of user-defined personal web cards thereby facilitating access to resources on the Internet while using a mobile device, particularly a mobile phone. The invention enables a user to enter or provide configuration information, which defines one or more personal web cards. Based on such configuration information, personal web cards are generated. This generation may be done after the configuration information has been entered or when a user request is received. The invention then enables users of mobile devices to send requests for predefined personal web cards. The personal web card requested is then presented or displayed on a mobile device, thereby enabling that user of that mobile device to obtain information or access an Internet resource by simply selecting one of the options contained in the personal web card. The cumbersome manner of input for mobile devices is ameliorated.

Abstract: Apparatus for deriving a parameter indicative of the quality of parts of, or the whole of, a television system from an insertion test signal repeated at regular intervals during field blanking periods of a transmitted signal includes a sampling means for providing a digital signal representing the amplitude at a sampling position of the test signal, means for actuating the sampling means, and a computer. The computer is programmed to caculate the quality parameter from a number of the amplitude representative digital signals taken at different sampling positions by the sampling means, to provide the calculated parameter as an output, and to respond to timing origins included in the television signal to thereby control the actuating means. The actuating times are so related to the timing origins that the digital amplitude signals are provided at an average rate which is low compared with the rate at which the signals occur during a single test signal.
