  • Patent number: 10052694
Abstract: A toolholder includes a pocket assembly having a nest section and a clamp section. An inverted nest is mounted in the nest section and includes an insert-receiving pocket for accommodating a cutting insert mounted therein. A clamping wedge is mounted in the clamp section in such a way that the cutting insert engages the clamping wedge. The inverted nest includes one or more coolant grooves that cooperate with the cutting insert for directing super critical carbon dioxide to a cutting tool/workpiece interface.

  • Patent number: 7753626
Abstract: A micro-adjustable differential screw assembly for providing fine adjustment of the axial and/or radial position of a cutting insert is disclosed. The micro-adjustable differential screw assembly can be mounted directly to a boring bar or to a mounting cartridge, which in turn, can be mounted to the boring bar. An axial micro-adjustable differential screw assembly provides fine adjustment of an axial position of the cutting insert, while a radial micro-adjustable differential screw assembly provides fine adjustment of a radial position of the cutting insert. The differential screw assembly includes a rotatable drive screw with threads of different thread pitches, and a non-rotatable adjusting screw with threads for mating with the drive screw.

  • Patent number: 6247878
Abstract: A mechanism and method for adjusting the position of a cutting insert relative to the body of a cutting tool is disclosed. The mechanism of the invention comprises a pair of flexible cantilevered walls each defining a wall of cutting insert pocket in the body of a boring bar. A boring bar of the invention comprises a bar body having at least one pocket for receiving a cutting insert and a position-adjusting mechanism including a pair of flexible cantilevered walls each defining a wall of the pocket. In the method of the invention, a boring bar is provided having a plurality of pockets each defined by a pair of cantilevered walls adapted to be flexed by a wedge mechanism. Next, a cutting insert is installed into each pocket. The position of the cutting edge of each cutting insert is then determined. In the last step of the method, the radially inwardmost insert is adjusted outward by using the wedge mechanism to flex the cantilevered walls.
