Publication number: 20240098493Abstract: Techniques for identifying a trusted SSID for a wireless network are disclosed. Prior to establishing a connection with a wireless network, a first network message is received from a first access point (AP) identifying a first service set identifier (SSID) associated with a first wireless network, a second network message is received from a second AP identifying a second SSID associated with a second wireless network, and a visual similarity is determined between a first visual representation of the first SSID and a second visual representation of the second SSID. The second SSID is designated as suspicious based on the determined visual similarity.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Inventors: Jay K. JOHNSTON, Jerome HENRY, David C. WHITE, JR., Magnus MORTENSEN, John M. SWARTZ, Robert E. BARTON

Patent number: 9964627Abstract: A system and method detect direction of movement. The system includes at least two radio frequency identification (RFID) readers arranged in different locations. The RFID readers transmit respective location signals from their locations and receive corresponding response signals from a portable electronic device (PED) when the PED is within range to receive the corresponding location signals, respectively. The system includes a controller configured to determine whether the individual response signals received by the RFID readers respectively satisfy a predetermined condition at a first time and a second time after the first time. The controller is configured to determine a direction of movement of the PED relative to the locations of the RFID readers during the first and second times based on whether the response signals respectively satisfy the predetermined condition at the first and second times, and control operations of the PED based on the determined movement of the PED.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2017Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: BOOZ ALLEN HAMILTON INC.Inventors: John C. Swartz, Anthony Hefner, Charles W. Richards, Gary Jason Myers, Matthias Welsh

Publication number: 20030167139Abstract: An electromagnetic emission source identification apparatus is provided, the identification apparatus comprising a sensor device, a data transmitter, and a computer device. The sensor device is configured to sense an electromagnetic emission from a source, wherein the electromagnetic emission is sensed by the sensor device as corresponding sensed emission data. The data transmitter is in communication with the sensor device and is configured to transmit the sensed emission data from the sensor device. The computer device is configured to be in communication with the data transmitter. The computer device is further configured to process digital emission data, the digital emission data corresponding to the sensed emission data, so as to determine an identification indicator, an operational characteristic indicator, and/or an accessory characteristic indicator corresponding to the source.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2001Publication date: September 4, 2003Applicant: MCNCInventors: John C. Patent number: 6114687Abstract: A device and method permits detecting, measuring, and recording the intensity of radiation corresponding to a green plant's photoactive spectrum striking a selected site, and utilizing such information alphanumerically and graphically displaying the photoactive radiation exposure in sols incident at the site during a particular portion of a day, an entire day, a week, or an month. The photoactive radiation information provided by the invention device allows gardeners, farmers, researchers and others to match the types of trees, shrubs, crops or other plants that would grow best under the radiation conditions usually incident at the site over a desired, extended time period.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Inventors: Michael C. Sharp, M. Kathleen Williams, John C. Swartz, Henry Hsiao

Patent number: 5419329Abstract: Disclosed is an ultrasonic diagnostic device which uses an optoelectronic transmitting circuit to trigger the voltage input to the 2-D array transducer elements located in the probe adjacent to the patient. The transmitting optoelectronic circuit disclosed comprises a plurality of light pulse generators, a plurality of fiber optic signal lines, and a plurality of light activated switching circuits that transmit the high voltage excitation input to the selected transducer transmit element(s).Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1994Date of Patent: May 30, 1995Assignee: Duke UniversityInventors: Stephen W. Smith, Charles D. Emery, John C. Swartz, H. Craig Casey, Jr.

Patent number: 4921454Abstract: Components for use with a base member in forming a cluster block assembly. More particularly the components include a cover housing which receives the base member and has slot-access cavities for terminals, terminals positioned in the cavities for being attached to wires entering the assembly and receptacles for sliding receiving post terminals entering the cavities through the slots and a cap for covering the cover housing.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1989Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Charles G. Atherton, John C. Swartz

Patent number: 4656378Abstract: Motor stator comprises a stator core having coil windings thereon which are connected to lead wires. A motor protector is connected to at least one of the windings and to one lead wire. The electrical connections between the lead wires, the windings and the protector are made by means of a stator connector mounted on the stator core and which has a pocket which receives the protector. Adjacent to the pocket, a cavity is provided which receives a terminal which connects one of the windings to a first terminal extending from the protector. The windings extend to terminals in the connector which have terminal tabs. The tabs are matable with receptacles in a complementary connector which can be coupled to the stator connector. The second protector terminal extends into the connector housing and is received in a terminal therein which also has a tab for mating with a receptacle in the complementary connector.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1985Date of Patent: April 7, 1987Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Charles G. Atherton, John C. Swartz

Patent number: 4649304Abstract: The required electrical connections between the ends of the windings on an electrical motor, the switch terminals for the motor, and the motor protector are made by means of an electrical connector which comprises a housing having a plurality of cavities. Each of the cavities has a double-ended terminal therein to which the winding ends are connected. Each terminal also has a receptacle portion which receives a tab extending from either the motor protector or the switch. The connector, the motor protector, and the switch are clustered adjacent to each other with the protector against or adjacent to the coil windings of the motor. The shape of the connector housing, the protector, and the switch, and the location of the cavities in the connector and the terminals on the switch is such that when the parts are assembled to each other on the motor, all of the required electrical connections will be made correctly.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1985Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Charles G. Atherton, John C. Swartz

Patent number: 4490004Abstract: Multi-contact connector for connecting wires to terminal pads on a circuit board comprises a housing having a trough-like opening extending into its circuit board receiving face. Terminal receiving cavities extend into the circuit board receiving face at spaced-apart intervals. The terminals are U-shaped and have wire-receiving slots extending inwardly from one end. A leaf spring is provided at the other end for contacting a terminal pad. Wire-admitting slots are provided in the housing and extend into the circuit board receiving face and the adjacent sidewalls. In use, a wire is positioned in the wire-admitting slots and the terminal is then inserted into the cavity. The wire is received in the wire-receiving slots and thereby connected to the terminal. When the circuit board is inserted into the trough-like opening, a spring contact on the terminal will engage a terminal pad.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: John T.
