Patent number: 11969554Abstract: A haptic stimulator includes a multilayer sheet with a piezoelectric or electroactive polymer layer adapted to mechanically deform upon application of voltage, the multilayer sheet secured to a substrate, and a source of electrical stimulation coupled to drive electrodes on the polymer layer with an AC signal to vibrate the polymer layer. In particular embodiments, the polymer contains polyvinylidene fluoride, and electrodes are patterned to control local electric fields. Another haptic stimulator has first and second electrodes with an air gap and an insulating sheet between first and second electrodes, with an AC voltage driver connecting to the electrodes. In a method of providing haptic stimulation to skin an alternating current supply drives first and second electrodes, the electrodes disposed upon either a piezoelectric or electroactive polymer sheet, vibrating the polymer layer by driving the electrodes; and coupling vibrations of the polymer layer to the sensate skin.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2020Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignees: THE TRUSTEES OF DARTMOUTH COLLEGE, FACEBOOK, INC.Inventors: Zi Chen, John X. Publication number: 20240134910Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods that search videos and other media content to identify items, objects, faces, or other entities within the media content. Detectors identify objects within media content by, for instance, detecting a predetermined set of visual features corresponding to the objects. Detectors configured to identify an object can be trained using a machine learned model (e.g., a convolutional neural network) as applied to a set of example media content items that include the object. The systems comprise an integrated detection unit configured to record media content, identify preferred content, and communicate the identifications of preferred content for storage in a computationally efficient manner.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2023Publication date: April 25, 2024Inventors: Reza Zadeh, Ryan Wong, John Goddard, Jiahang Li, Steven Chen, Xiaoyun Yang

Publication number: 20240125819Abstract: The present disclosure is directed toward systems and methods for measuring electric current in a multi-wire cable, as well as the apparent and real power associated with an electrical load connected to the cable. A probe comprising an array of small form-factor, high-speed magnetometers is operatively coupled with the cable such that the magnetometers partially surround the cable. Each magnetometer detects the composite magnetic field at its location, and this plurality of measurements is used to generate a magnetic-field map. The contributions of the current flow in each wire are identified by deconvolving the magnetic-field map, enabling their locations to be determined and monitoring of the current and power flow. A sensor included in the probe is used to determine the phase of the applied voltage. The phase difference between the voltage and current is then used to determine the real power dissipation of the load.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2023Publication date: April 18, 2024Inventors: Axel Scherer, John Richard Ordonez-Varela, Samson CHEN, Pasha RESHETIKHIN

Patent number: 11953706Abstract: Wavelength-selective films are visibly apparent under the selective wavelength. Wavelength-selective films typically reflect off axis the selected wavelength and therefore can provide high-contrast against a background when applied in a pattern on a substrate. However, it is difficult to apply unique patterned embedded images from film. Disclosed is a cost-effective method and construction of a patterned wavelength-selective image to a substrate. In the disclosed wavelength-selective image, wavelength-selective film particles are applied to an adhesive pattern to create the wavelength-selective image.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2019Date of Patent: April 9, 2024Assignee: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANYInventors: Kui Chen-Ho, Kenneth L.
