  • Patent number: 9742319
Abstract: A current controller for an electric machine that includes an input, an output, a threshold generator and a comparator. The threshold generator stores a scaling factor and includes a PWM module that operates on a reference voltage to generate a threshold voltage. The duty cycle of the PWM module is then defined by the scaling factor. The comparator compares a voltage at the input against the threshold voltage and causes an overcurrent signal to be generated at the output when the voltage at the input exceeds the threshold voltage.

  • Patent number: 8395340
Abstract: A control system for an electric machine, the control system including a current controller and a drive controller. The current controller includes an input, an output, a comparator and a latch. The comparator sets the latch when a voltage at the input exceeds a threshold, and the latch outputs an overcurrent signal when set. The drive controller then resets the latch after a predetermined period of time.

  • Publication number: 20110015788
Abstract: A control system for an electric machine that includes an analogue-to-digital converter (ADC), a processor and a memory device storing a lookup table. The ADC converts a voltage at an input to a first value. The processor then uses the first value to address an element of the lookup table. Data stored in the addressed element is used to generate an index value, which the control system then uses to generate one or more control signals for controlling excitation of a winding of the electric machine. Additionally, a method of controlling the electric machine and a method of trimming the control system.
