  • Patent number: 5636956
Abstract: A fastener is a screw having a threaded shaft, and a fastening strip or sheet having a raised portion provided with an aperture being preformed to have an at least partly helical threadform-defining edge shaped and dimensional to matingly receive the threaded shaft of the screw. The crests of the threaded shaft have an asymmetrical surface profile in the axial direction of the threaded shaft which enables the shaft to withstand greater applied torque.

  • Patent number: 4928579
Abstract: An improved disc brake plastic piston is described which has a metallic cap or face which provides a means of attaching a brake shoe or a brake shoe assembly, or provides a dust boot groove, or, in a most preferred mode, the metallic cap component provides both a brake shoe retaining means and a dust boot groove. The piston is comprised of a cylindrical plastic body having an open end and a closed end. At least one ring bead can extend from the wall of the piston body contiguous to, or near, the open end. A metallic cap extends over the end wall of the open end of the cylindrical body and is secured to the body by being snap fit or clamped over the ring bead. Alternative means for anchoring the metallic cap are provided, such as by crimping the interior lip of the metallic cap or by providing threads on the internal or external walls of the piston adjacent to the open end of the piston, and corresponding or matching threads on the metallic cap.

  • Patent number: 4781661
Abstract: A boss mounted, non-metallic pulley comprising a base member with a central aperture therein and an annular pulley track formed on an outer periphery of the base member which is axially offset with respect to and perpendicular to the hub, and a boss carrier formed on an inner surface of and integral with a base member, the boss carrier including a plurality of bosses, each with a mounting bore formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4401012
Abstract: An improved disc brake plastic piston is described which has a metallic cap or face which provides a means of attaching a brake shoe or a brake shoe assembly, or provides a dust boot groove, or, in a most preferred mode, the metallic cap component provides both a brake shoe retaining means and a dust boot groove. The piston is comprised of a cylindrical plastic body having an open end and a closed end. At least one ring bead can extend from the wall of the piston body contiguous to, or near, the open end. The bead or beads are suitably ejector beads utilized in the molding operation. A metallic cap extends over the end wall of the open end of the cylindrical body and is secured to the body by being snap fit or clamped over the ring bead. The cap is adapted to receive and hold a brake shoe clip, or provide a dust boot groove, and, in a most preferred embodiment, provides both a brake shoe retaining means and a dust boot groove.

  • Patent number: 4289061
Abstract: An improved assembly for mounting a part onto a base member is provided by incorporating a tubular insert having a hollow inner core in a mounting hole in the part. A fastener, such as a bolt, machine screw or rivet may then be inserted through the insert in the mounting hole for attachment to the base member. When the assembly is subjected to axial compression by the fastener, the insert collapses uniformly in an axial direction to absorb a substantial amount of the total compressive load exerted upon tightening the fastener.

  • Patent number: 4289060
Abstract: An improved assembly for mounting a part onto a base member is provided by incorporating a tubular insert having a hollow inner core in a mounting hole in the part. A fastener, such as a bolt, machine screw or rivet, may then be inserted through the insert in the mounting hole for attachment to the base member. The tubular insert has an integral flange on the end which engages the fastener. The flange functions as the "washer" in conventional fastener assemblies. When the assembly is subjected to axial compression by the fastener, the insert collapses uniformly in an axial direction to absorb a substantial amount of the total compressive load exerted upon tightening the fastener.

  • Patent number: 4197352
Abstract: The present invention relates to composite friction assemblies and to methods of making the assemblies. The assemblies include at least one friction member and a support member. The friction member is formed from a mixture of thermosettable phenol-aldehyde resin and filler material under conditions less than those which would thermoset the resin component. The preformed friction member is joined to the support member by molding a mixture of phenol-aldehyde resin and filler material in a mold cavity which utilizes a face of the preformed friction member as a portion thereof. The molding conditions are such that the resin component of the members are commonly cured, or thermoset, to produce a composite friction assembly.
