  • Patent number: 7040212
Abstract: A container (1) for acting as a storage enclosure and launch tube for a missile (3), the container (1) comprising an integral missile efflux management system including an efflux deflector (1d) positioned for receiving the missile efflux and deflecting it into a series of ducts (8) which run alongside the missile to the missile exit end (16) of the container (1), which end may have an openable cover (7) operable to close both the missile exit and the exits from the ducts (8). The efflux deflector is a dome-shaped base-plate (1d) spaced from the ducts to define a plenum chamber. The particular interior shape of the base plate (1d) ensures optimum efflux management.

  • Patent number: 5386951
Abstract: A projectile, which spins in flight about a spin axis, including a source of pressure fluid, efflux outlet means in flow connection with said source, the efflux outlet means comprising at least two nozzle members symmetrically spaced about the spin axis, each nozzle member being pivotally mounted on the projectile, and means responsive to the prevailing spin rate effective to pivot the nozzle members such that the effective radius centred upon the spin axis at which the thrust generated by the efflux from the nozzle members is operative can be varied whereby the torque applied to the projectile about the spin axis can be varied without the necessity of measuring the spin rate or effecting throttling of the efflux.

  • Patent number: 4817891
Abstract: A deployment mechanism in which a member 2 deploys from a spinning body 1 by centrifugal force is described.A friction arm 6 exerts a retarding torque on the root 4 of member 2 and prevents the member from overshooting its deployed position. The friction arm 6 applies a retarding torque which is proportional to the spin rate of the missile and keeps the resultant deployment torque to within pre-determined limits. The mechanism automatically compensates for a wide range of spin rates.
