  • Patent number: 11999252
Abstract: An electric vehicle having an electrical storage battery includes an inductive charge receiver configured to inductively couple to a series of charging coils embedded in a roadway over which the vehicle travels in order to transfer charge to the storage battery. A ground penetrating radar transceiver is configured to interrogate the roadway including a region of the roadway toward which the vehicle is heading. The ground penetrating radar transceiver generates reflectance data including reflections from the charging coils and from embedded cabling coupling the charging coils. An object analyzer is responsive to the reflectance data and configured to map the series of charging coils relative to the vehicle. A path controller is configured to determine a steering operation of the vehicle along the roadway for optimizing a charge transfer from the series of charging coils to the inductive charge receiver.

  • Publication number: 20240166165
Abstract: A vehicle entry system which identifies authorized users via facial recognition has an image sensor configured to capture real-time images according to a predetermined field of view from a vehicle. A lockout device is configured to selectably provide access to the vehicle. The entry system has a controller configured to (A) analyze a first one of the captured images for matching to a stored facial pattern corresponding to an authorized user of the vehicle, (B) detect a request for a secondary authentication after the captured image being analyzed fails to match the stored facial pattern, (C) analyze a second one of the captured images for a nonbiometric secondary code entrusted to a secondary user; and (D) issue a command for the lockout device to grant the access to the vehicle when the secondary code is detected.

  • Publication number: 20240109515
Abstract: A snow and ice vehicle accumulation determination and removal system for an electrified vehicle uses weight/load estimation methods based on vehicle sensors and user input to determine if the vehicle has accumulated a significant amount of snow/ice that could negatively affect the vehicle range. When a weight variation exists above a predetermined threshold which can be accounted for only as being due to snow and ice, then the invention may (1) warn the driver of reduced range and the reason for it, (2) perform drivetrain and/or cabin heating that may contribute to melting of the snow and ice (e.g., automatically adjusting powertrain performance to generate increase heat, such as running at a higher RPM), and/or (3) instruct the driver to proceed to an environment which can warm the vehicle (such as a facility equipped with a hot water spraying device).

  • Publication number: 20240097696
Abstract: Example channel circuits, data storage devices, and methods for asynchronous sampling from an oversampled analog-to-digital converter are described. The channel circuit may include an analog-to-digital converter configured to generate an oversampled digital signal from an analog data signal using a sample rate that is an integer multiple of the baud rate of the channel circuit. A digital sample interpolator may then interpolate interpolated digital signal values from multiple signal values of the oversampled digital signal and select values at baud rate to generate a baud rate digital signal. The baud rate digital signal may be used by an iterative detector in a timing loop and, once a target timing is achieved, for the iterative detector to detect data bits from the interpolated digital signal.

  • Patent number: 8670707
Abstract: A communication system is provided that allows the use of low-cost, low-power remote terminal units that communicate substantially asynchronously and independently to a base station. To minimize cost and complexity, the remote terminal units are configured similarly, including the use of substantially identical transmission schemes, such as a common Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) code. To minimize collisions among transmissions, the communication system is designed to use a high-gain antenna with a limited field of view, to limit the number of cotemporaneous, or overlapping transmissions that are received at the base station. To cover a wide area, the limited field of view is swept across the area of coverage. To overcome potential losses caused by collisions, the remote terminal units are configured to repeat transmissions; to minimize repeated collisions, the repeat interval and/or duration is randomized.

  • Patent number: 8430868
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are related to tools for coupling leads to header assemblies for implantable medical devices, amongst other things. A wrench is configured so that if an axial force exceeding a first threshold is applied to a handle housing, then the housing handle will rotate with respect to a shaft. Other embodiments are also included herein.

  • Patent number: 6296205
Abstract: An inspection satellite is deployed in proximity to another satellite. The inspection satellite contains monitoring equipment and provides diagnostic information to a earth station to facilitate diagnosis of the other satellite and its equipment. The inspection satellite includes a flight control system that maintains the probe satellite in proximity to the satellite being monitored. In a preferred embodiment, the flight control system can also maintain the inspection satellite in an orbit about the satellite being monitored, to facilitate diagnostics based on patterns of signals. The monitoring equipment in a preferred embodiment for a transponder satellite includes an ability to monitor incoming signals and to compare the emissions from the satellite to them, to determine performance characteristics of the satellite equipment being monitored, such as phase shift and gain.
