  • Publication number: 20030102136
Abstract: A rotating drilling head seals around drill pipe while drilling. The drilling head has an outer housing that mounts to the rig floor. An inner housing is rotatably mounted in the outer housing. An annular bladder is mounted in the inner housing. An annular elastomeric gripping member is mounted in the bladder. The inner housing having a passage for delivering hydraulic fluid pressure to the outer surface of the bladder to cause the bladder to deform inwardly, thereby forcing the gripping member to deform inwardly to grip and rotate with a drill pipe. The gripping member has a first end secured to the inner housing for rotating the inner housing as the drill pipe rotates and a second end that is free to move axially to allow the bladder to elongate in response to the deformation by the bladder.

  • Publication number: 20020009137
Abstract: A 3D video broadcasting system includes a video stream compressor used to generate a base stream and an enhancement stream using a base stream encoder and an enhancement stream encoder, respectively. The base stream includes either right view images or left view images, and is encoded and decoded independently of the enhancement stream using MPEG-2 standard. The enhancement stream includes the view images not included in the base stream, and is dependent upon the base stream for encoding and decoding. The base stream encoder provides I-pictures to the enhancement stream encoder for disparity estimation and compensation during bi-directional encoding and decoding of the enhancement stream. In addition, for bi-directional encoding and decoding, decoded enhancement stream pictures are used for motion estimation and compensation. The video stream compressor can be used to compress right and left view video streams from two video cameras or from a single video camera generated using a 3D lens system.

  • Patent number: 6302211
Abstract: A running tool is used to install a load shoulder and a wear bushing in a subsea wellhead. A subsea wellhead has a locator shoulder, and grooved upper and lower profiles. The running tool has a cylindrical wear bushing that lands on a locator shoulder provided in the bore above a grooved lower profile in a wellhead housing. The running tool also carries a load shoulder ring and a split lock ring. The installation process consists of preparing the tool before running the tool subsea. Flowby ports on the running tool remain open during installation to speed the trip-in operation. The flowby ports are closed by lowering the central mandrel after the running tool lands. Then a portion of the wear bushing is moved downward, which in turn pushes the load shoulder out into the lower grooved profile to retain the load shoulder ring and wear bushing with the wellhead.

  • Patent number: 6182829
Abstract: An insert for use within integrated circuit (IC) chip carriers to provide universality across device types and applications at a low design and fabrication cost. The present invention functions as a generic carrier floor and/or adaptor insert which enables reception of both quad-flat-pack (QFP) and thin-quad-flat-pack (TQFP) ICs within frames of a variety of existing carriers, or alternatively, may allow both QFP and TQFP ICs to utilize a single IC carrier frame, a feature which currently prevailing embodiments would require two unique IC carriers.

  • Patent number: 6142375
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting the presence of multiple items includes a platform upon which one or more items may be placed and a detector positioned with respect to the platform to receive an image of a profile of the one or more items on the platform. The detector is configured and arranged to generate a signal corresponding to the profile. The signal indicates whether multiple items are on the platform. The detector may be, for example, a moving point detector, a linear detector, or a two-dimensional array detector. This apparatus can be used in conjunction with an inventory control device, such as an automated library check-out device, to prevent the unauthorized removal of inventory items.

  • Patent number: 5937578
Abstract: A mounting assembly for safety sensors for automatic garage door openers is shown in which the sensor is gimbal mounted in a insect and dust proof shroud on a mounting stud. The stud and shroud are adjustable in height. The shroud has transparent lenses for sensor and status information and provides protection against external impact to the sensor as well as improved safety for users of the device.

  • Patent number: 5602531
Abstract: An electronic article surveillance (EAS) systems includes an asynchronous noise suppression adaptive filter which removes asynchronous interference from the signal of interest with minimum distortion of the transients emitted when a sensitized tag is interrogated. The system also includes a synchronous noise suppression filter which removes interrogation synchronous noise from the signal of interest. The resulting EAS system increases the likelihood that a sensitized tag will be detected when one is present and reduces the occurrence of false alarms.

  • Patent number: 5440296
Abstract: An antenna lattice for use in a magnetically based electronic article surveillance system. The lattice includes a field-producing coil assembly which includes a pair of trapezoidal-shaped segments, each having a diagonally extending lower portion, the segments being juxtaposed in a mirror image so that the diagonal portions are opposite each other. The segments are connected so that vertical components of the currents in the diagonal sections at least partially cancel. Preferably, top horizontal sections of each segment are located at different levels, thereby extending the upper coverage, and a detector coil preferably also juxtaposed extends above the top horizontal section of the field-producing coil to further extend the range of detection.

  • Patent number: 5299642
Abstract: An internal tieback connector for a subsea wellhead housing has a body which lands on the wellhead housing. A funnel extends over the wellhead housing. An internal connector element carried by the body will engage a profile in the wellhead housing. A connector actuator when moved axially downward will actuate the connector element. A tube extends downward from the connector actuator and engages the bore of a casing hanger. A locking device employs slips to allow downward movement of the actuator but prevent upward movement. The locking device can be released. A running tool is hydraulically actuated for moving the actuator downward and releasing the actuator to disconnect the tieback connector.

  • Patent number: 5170445
Abstract: A code parser decodes coded compressed image information into an intermediate code. A code expander operating asynchronously relative to the code parser decompresses the compressed image information in accordance with such decoded information. A window register in the code parser has a length at least as long as the longest code in the intermediate code. When the intermediate code indicates a pattern in one line in a raster scan of an image corresponding to a pattern in an immediately preceding line, the window register and associated circuitry scan the one line and provide for the decompression in such line in accordance with the decompression at the corresponding positions in the preceding line. Such associated circuitry may include two memories, one for even scan lines and the other for odd scan lines. Alternate ones of the memories are activated for information comparison between adjacent lines during alternate line scans.

  • Patent number: 4960172
Abstract: A seal assembly for a casing hanger utilizes diverging tapered surfaces. The casing hanger locates within a wellhead housing. The casing hanger has an outer wall spaced inward from an inner wall of the wellhead housing, defining an annular clearance. At least one of the inner or outer walls has a tapered or conical sealing section. The taper is downward, resulting in increased radial width of the annular clearance in a downward direction. A metal packoff locates in the annular clearance. The packoff has inner and outer legs which are spread apart by means of an energizing ring. The legs seal against the casing hanger outer wall and wellhead housing inner wall.
