  • Patent number: 9315173
Abstract: A towed vehicle braking system and method for applying brakes to a towed vehicle. The towed vehicle braking system may include a master controller, a brake pedal activation device, and a breakaway cable. The master controller may be mountable in a towing vehicle and may be selectively placed in a trailer mode or a powered vehicle mode. A brake signal wire used to apply braking power to trailer brakes may be used for communication between the master controller and the brake pedal activation device. The brake pedal activation device may use a force sensor to determine that a force applied to a brake pedal of the towed vehicle corresponds to a desired amount of braking force as indicated by the master controller. The breakaway cable may be a combination of a traditional breakaway switch and an electrical cord between the towed and towing vehicles.

Abstract: A head-mounted pointing device is disclosed, and can be used for example for surgical training. The pointing device includes a frame or harness assembly made from a circumferential headband and a cross strap that extends over the user's (i.e. trainer's) head. A laser pointer is mounted on one side of the circumferential headband, and a battery pack is provided to power the laser pointer. An user-operated pneumatically controlled switch is used to toggle the laser pointer. By moving the user's head and by activating the switch to engage the laser pointer, the trainer can point to a given target, such as material to be surgically excised from the patient during a surgical procedure.

  • Publication number: 20150004075
Abstract: A surgical sterilizing container tub is provided on which a sterilizing container lid is adapted to be detachably fitted for formation of a surgical sterilizing container for holding surgical instruments for sterilization. The sterilizing container tub has a bottom and a container wall projecting from the bottom. The sterilizing container tub defines a set-down plane, and the bottom forms a fluid collection area for collecting fluid. In order to provide such a surgical sterilizing container tub and such a surgical sterilizing container with which fluid to be removed can be effectively conducted to the fluid collection area, the bottom has a fluid drainage surface which is inclined relative to the set-down plane and is in fluid connection with the fluid collection area for draining fluid in the direction of the container wall. A surgical sterilizing container is also provided.

  • Patent number: 8880035
Abstract: An improved system and method to provide important information either, as voice, text, picture, holographic image or video from the called party to a calling party before the called party answers a telephone. The information may be a recorded voice, text, image or video message. The called party may send a voice message, for example, and send it along with a call alerting message. The voice message may be recorded beforehand. Instead of the calling party's telephone playing a ringback signal, the recorded voice message is played or a data/bearer stream is heard. The calling party hears the voice message instead of the ringback tone normally heard when there is an incoming telephone call. If the calling and called party have telephones, such as mobile phones, IP phones, IP softphones, PDA with telephony capabilities, etc., which allow for multimedia messages such as text, images and video messages, the called party's recorded voice message may include text, images or video.

  • Patent number: 8696631
Abstract: A drive mechanism for delivery of infusion medium has a coil and an armature movable toward a forward position, in response to the electromagnetic field produced by activation of the coil. A piston is movable axially within a piston channel to a forward position, in response to movement of the armature to its forward position. The armature and piston are moved toward a retracted position, when the coil is not energized. In the retracted position of the piston, a piston chamber is formed between the piston and a valve member and is filled with infusion medium. As the piston is moved to its forward position, the piston chamber volume is reduced and pressure within the piston chamber increases to a point where the pressure moves the valve member into an open position through an outlet.
