  • Patent number: 8014826
Abstract: A wireless communication base station assembly includes at least one base band unit (40) having one primary circuit board (100) with circuitry for a control function (102), a timing function (104), a line interface function (106) and a radio interface function (108). The electronics and circuitry for each of these functions are all supported on the one primary circuit board (100). At least one channel module (e.g., a channel card) is coupled to the primary circuit board. A single, generally rectangular housing (42) contains the primary circuit board and the channel module. Disclosed examples include a rack (50) having a plurality of slots (52) configured to accommodate the housing (42).

    Filed: June 25, 2007
Date of Patent: September 6, 2011
    Assignee: Alcatel Lucent
Inventors: John H. Baldwin, James T. Butler, Peter Giannoglou, Philip J. Hubbauer

  • Patent number: 5936967
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting and/or receiving variable-length packets (e.g., CDMA packets, CDPD packets) that are associated with different channels and which are multiplexed via a single virtual circuit (e.g., an ATM virtual circuit).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 27, 1996
Date of Patent: August 10, 1999
    Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: John H. Baldwin, Behram Homi Bharucha, Bharat Tarachand Doshi, Subrahmanyam Dravida, Sanjiv Nanda
  • Patent number: 5633868
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing a virtual circuit network is disclosed that enables hand-off management. An illustrative embodiment establishes a virtual ciruit by receiving, at a radio port, a virtual circuit identifier from a wireless terminal and attaching the virtual circuit identifier to an OA&M cell. The radio port then transmits, over a pre-established unidirectional virtual ciruit, the OA&M cell to a radio port manager.

Inventors: John H. Baldwin, Helen Chu, Bharat T. Doshi, Subrahmanyam Dravida, Sanjiv Nanda, Philip A. Treventi
  • Patent number: 5606552
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling one or more packets (e.g., CDMA packets, CDPD packets etc.) to be encapsulated into a cell (e.g., an ATM cell, a B-ISDN cell) for transmission and/or reception over a broadband network (e.g., an ATM Channel). An illustrative method includes building a basic control octet for a packet of N bytes, the basic control octet including (1) an additional control bit that indicates if a supplemental control octet accompanies the basic control octet, and (2) a length indicator based on N.
