  • Patent number: 5445284
Abstract: The screw-thread neck of a container, e.g. a glass bottle, has a closure with a tamper-evident ring connected to the lower end of the skirt of the closure by frangible bridges. Opposite the ring, the neck finish of the container has a nose-shaped projection the upper and lower flanks of which meet in a sharp edge, and has an annular groove below the projection. The bridges are formed in an inwardly facing groove above the projection and are radially spaced from the outer surface of the neck finish. The tamper-evident ring is swaged into close contact with the projection, is deformed into a channel on the neck finish below projection, and is closely engaged with the surface of the neck finish below the channel. Interference involving outward prying movement by a lever on the lower edge portion of the ring to disengage the ring from groove causes a pivoting action about the tip of projection leading to fracture of the bridges.

  • Patent number: 5137012
Abstract: A pellet burning stove includes a firebox defining a combustion chamber, a pellet burner located within the firebox, a feed system for moving combustible pellets to the pellet burner and an ash pan for receiving ashes from the pellet burner. The pellet burner includes a horizontal surface having an elongated combustion zone defined by a plurality of primary air openings in the burner surface, and a feed surface adjacent to the combustion zone. The feed system moves a thin layer of combustible pellets across the feed surface into the combustion zone. An air plenum surrounding the feed surface of the pellet burner supplies combustion air upwardly through the primary air opening and the layer of combustible pellets. The air plenum maintains the pellets relatively cool until they reach the combustion zone. Ashes drop off an edge of the burner surface into an ash pan. An artificial log set and a log support member fabricated of refractory fiber material define a secondary combustion cavity above the pellet burner.

  • Patent number: 4858536
Abstract: An ash pan assembly for a wood burning or coal burning stove includes an ash pan door permanently attached to the stove and mounted for movement between a closed ash collection position and an open position. An ash pan is mounted to the movable ash pan door. A detachable ash pan cover is easily attached to the ash pan in the open position. The ash pan cover prevents accidental spillage of ashes and hot coals from the ash pan and includes a carrying handle by which the ash pan is lifted from the assembly and taken for disposal. The ash pan door is preferably hinged to the front wall of the stove for swinging to the open position.

  • Patent number: 4356680
Abstract: In applying to an externally threaded bottle neck an unthreaded metal closure having a gasket within it, the closure shell is pressed down on the bottle and while the shell is so held the diameter of the upper end of the skirt is reduced at angularly spaced intervals to press the gasket into sealing engagement with a cylindrical sealing surface on the neck of the bottle above the bottle thread and simultaneously to form a band of knurling which can be grasped manually.

  • Patent number: 4221105
Abstract: In applying an unthreaded metal closure to the threaded neck of a bottle by the use of profiled thread rollers to shape the skirt of the closure shell into conformity with the bottle thread while the shell is pressed down on the mouth of the bottle, the part of the skirt in which the thread is formed is engaged during the thread-rolling operation by at least one plain roll angularly displaced with respect to the thread rollers.
