Patent number: 5905978Abstract: A memory utilization value indicative of memory utilization associated with a data channel is received. A queue depth value indicative of the queue depth of messages located within a message queue maintained by the data channel is also received. A fuzzy logic design is executed with the memory utilization value in the queue depth value used as input parameters. A crisp value is then generated which corresponds to a window size of the data channel.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1996Date of Patent: May 18, 1999Assignee: Unisys CorporationInventors: John H. Patent number: 5205521Abstract: A hose reel stand having a reel and hub assembly which is rotatable about the vertical axis of the hose reel stand, allowing a hose supported on the reel to be easily dispensed from any direction. The hub is rotatably attached and supported on a post so as to be vertically adjustable. A flow control unit including a valve and flow timer are also attached to the post below the reel and hub assembly. The flow control unit allows complete control of the water flow to the hose so as to provide a complete watering station remote from a water source. The hose reel stand is designed to be permanently anchored to the ground.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1992Date of Patent: April 27, 1993Assignee: David E. KafkaInventor: John H. Smith

Patent number: 4760637Abstract: A fuel assembly fabrication apparatus includes a stationary support fixture and a slide fixture mounted to one end portion thereof for movement therealong. Clamp structures are disposed in spaced relation longitudinally along the stationary support fixture. One clamp structure is mounted on the movable slide fixture and supports a top nozzle and an uppermost one of a plurality of grids of a fuel assembly. The remaining clamp structures are mounted on the stationary support fixture and support a bottom nozzle and the remaining grids. The clamp structures respectively support the top nozzle and uppermost grid and the bottom nozzle and remaining grids in generally parallel relationship with passageways defined in the top and bottom nozzles and sleeves connected on the grids being aligned for slidably receiving therethrough a plurality of guide thimbles and an instrumentation tube of the fuel assembly for attachment to the nozzles and grid sleeves.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1987Date of Patent: August 2, 1988Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.Inventors: John S. Kerrey, John H. Smith

Patent number: 4623295Abstract: A one-step loading adapter is attached to a lifting truck. The adapter is able to transport and position a store such as a missile from a storage location to an aircraft wing for mounting thereto without transfer to another device. The adapter has a removable boom assembly for lifting and lowering the store as desired. An adjustable cradle having three degrees of freedom is able to position the store for mounting once the store is loaded thereon.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1985Date of Patent: November 18, 1986Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air ForceInventors: Dale R. Patent number: 4572782Abstract: A device for loading granular material containing some foreign matter into a container, such as a railroad car, has upper and lower chutes arranged in parallel. The upper chute has a bottom screen for allowing the foreign matter to fall through to the lower chute. The grain flow remaining on the upper chute is discharged down the center of the car and fills toward the sides, while the foreign matter falling to the lower chute is distributed evenly by sidewardly extending wings out toward the sides and in towards the center of the car. By the operation of the device, the foreign matter carried in the grain is evenly distributed and mixed throughout the car, and the tendency of the foreign matter to concentrate along the center under the hatchway of the car is prevented. A sample of the grain taken from the hatchway of the car thereby contains a truer percentage of foreign matter to grain than would occur by conventional loading devices.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1984Date of Patent: February 25, 1986Assignee: Southern AG., Inc.Inventors: John H. Smith, Otis Logan

Patent number: 4522276Abstract: An individual nuclear fuel rod weighing system for rods carried on a tray which moves along a materials handling conveyor. At a first tray position on the conveyor, a lifting device raises the rods off the tray and places them on an overhead ramp. A loading mechanism conveys the rods singly from the overhead ramp onto an overhead scale for individual weighing. When the tray is at a second position on the conveyor, a transfer apparatus transports each weighed rod from the scale back onto the tray.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1983Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.Inventors: James L. Fogg, George E. Vining, John H. Smith, Cecil A. Howell

Patent number: 4251323Abstract: Delayed petroleum coke is calcined in an internally-fired vertical shaft kiln. A downwardly-moving bed of green coke is preheated in the top of the kiln by rising combustion gases, then heat soaked at calcining temperatures in the intermediate section of the kiln, and finally cooled by recycle gas moving upwardly from the lower part of the kiln. Partially cooled calcined coke is recovered from the bottom of the kiln.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1979Date of Patent: February 17, 1981Assignee: Conoco, Inc.Inventor: John H. Smith
