  • Patent number: 9165989
Abstract: A large-format substrate with distributed control elements is formed by providing a substrate and a wafer, the wafer having a plurality of separate, independent chiplets formed thereon; imaging the wafer and analyzing the wafer image to determine which of the chiplets are defective; removing the defective chiplet(s) from the wafer leaving remaining chiplets in place on the wafer; printing the remaining chiplet(s) onto the substrate forming empty chiplet location(s); and printing additional chiplet(s) from the same or a different wafer into the empty chiplet location(s).

  • Patent number: 8485925
Abstract: A tensioner in accordance with the present invention employs a spindle and a tensioner arm which are preferably manufactured by a suitable manufacturing process, such as die casting, negating a requirement for machining operations. The biasing spring of the tensioner is wound with wire having a non-circular cross section to increase the spring force of the spring compared to a similar spring wound with wire of circular cross section and, as the tensioner arm is moved away from the flexible drive, the diameter of the biasing spring expands and the coils press a dampening shoe into contact with a wall of the tensioner arm producing a dampening force. The tensioner is simple to assemble and requires a relatively small package volume for the biasing force it can produce.

  • Patent number: 8056341
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for storing heat energy in a body of graphite at an elevated temperature are disclosed. The method comprises heating an inner region of a body of graphite when it is required to store the heat energy and recovering the heat by way of a heat exchanger, when the energy is required to be used. The apparatus is suitable for the storage of renewable energy and electric energy obtainable from off peak periods of supply.

  • Publication number: 20050289260
Abstract: A, preferably external, storage device is provided with a button or other user input which, when activated, causes a launch of an application such as a backup of data from the host device onto the external storage device. Preferably, the external storage device includes a hard disk drive. Communication with the host device can be made using USB, IEEE 1394, Ethernet, wireless links or other links. The external device is configured to allow the host to become aware of a button press, e.g., by a notification or interrupt technique, or by a polling technique.

  • Publication number: 20020164574
Abstract: The growth of a cell is measured in a microplate format in the absence or presence of a test compound, across a variety of different environmental conditions, such as the presence of carbon sources, different pH, nitrogen sources, salinity, etc. The patterns of growth across a number of different parameters is assembled into a dataset, which dataset may then be utilized for information about the pathway or pathways that are affected by the compound. Unknown compounds may be identified by matching the characteristic growth patterns to the growth patterns from known compounds, or to classes of compounds. Alternatively, unknown or known compounds, including biologically active compounds and derivatives and analogs of biologically active compounds, are classified according to the particular pattern of growth.
