    Abstract: A near-eye display assembly presented herein includes an electronic display, an optical assembly, and scanning assembly. The electronic display has a first resolution. The optical assembly controls a field of view at an eye box and directs a plurality of light rays emitting from the electronic display toward the eye box. The scanning assembly shifts a direction of at least one of the light rays in accordance with emission instructions such that a virtual display is presented to the eye box, the virtual display having a second resolution greater than the first resolution. The display assembly can be implemented as a component of a head-mounted display of an artificial reality system.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a biodegradable, magnesium-containing bone screw for implanting into a patient body for use in medical applications, such as, orthopedic, craniofacial and cardiovascular surgery. The bone screw has a head, shaft and tip. The thickness of the head is greater than the thickness of conventional bone screws. The shaft includes both a non-threaded and a threaded portion. The tip is non-threaded and pointed, such as, conical in shape. The composition of the bone screws provide for improved biodegradability and biocompatibility, and the features of the structure of the bone screws facilitate guidance and placement during implantation as well as reduce the potential for mechanical failures.

    Abstract: A light source or projector for a near-eye display includes a light source subassembly optically coupled to a waveguide concentrator. The light source subassembly may include several semiconductor chips each hosting an array of emitters such s superluminescent light-emitting diodes. The semiconductor chips may be disposed side-by-side, with their emitting sides or facets coupled to the waveguide concentrator, which provides a tight array of output light ports on a common output plane of the concentrator. The output diverging beams at the array of output light ports are coupled to a collimator, which collimates the beams and couples them to an angular scanner for scanning the collimated light beams together across the field of view of the display.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are safety devices that are positioned on the end of a fiberoptic cable, such as those used in surgical procedures, to prevent patients and other objects from the risk of burn from light or heat emitted from the end of the cable when not connected to an optical instrument. The disclosed safety devices can be added to the ends of existing cables and/or can be included at the end of cables during manufacture. In some embodiments, the safety device replaces an existing connector at the end of a cable, and in some embodiments the safety device is added in addition to a connector at the end of the cable. In some embodiments, a slit end cover is included over an open end of an adaptor that is mounted on a distal connector of a fiberoptic cable.

An ultrasonic sealer with a horn and an anvil defines a nip therebetween through which the first web section passes. The ultrasonic sealer is configured to form the lap seal in the first web section.     Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying a seal to a structure, for example sealing an aircraft fuel tank. The method comprises: providing a mould part; positioning the mould part against a surface of the structure thereby to create a mould cavity between the mould part and the surface; introducing a sealant into the mould cavity; curing the sealant within the mould cavity thereby to apply the seal to the surface; and removing the mould part from the surface with the seal applied thereto.
