  • Patent number: 6356299
Abstract: An automated track inspection vehicle for inspecting track for anomalies includes a self-propelled car equipped with cameras for creating images of the track. A driver and inspector visually inspect the track and right-of-way through a window in the vehicle. Additionally, the images from the cameras are viewed by an inspector on a video terminal to detect anomalies. When anomalies are detected by the driver, inspector, or various redundant detection systems, a signal is provided to store the video data for later review by an analyst. The analyst will review the stored video data to confirm the presence of an anomaly and generate a track inspection report identifying at least the type and location of anomaly and the required remedial action.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1999
Date of Patent: March 12, 2002
    Assignee: National Railroad Passenger Corporation
Inventors: Michael Trosino, John J. Cunningham, Alfred E. Shaw, III

  • Patent number: 4649971
Abstract: A boring machine for preboring holes in railway ties on which a powered conveyor is supported for movement between input and discharge ends through a boring station between the input and discharge ends to extend transversely of the conveyor path. At the boring station transversely extending in side reference criteria are established in relation to which devices at the boring station position end lock each tie with its centerline and one end in a fixed relationship to the boring station reference criteria. Multi-spindle boring heads below the conveyor arranged in a predetermined relationship to the boring head transversely extending in side reference criteria are supported for vertical movement through a fixed distance with respect to the underside of the tie that bore holes in the tie underside in a fixed relationship relative to the tie centerline and one end.

  • Patent number: 4399252
Abstract: Process oil is made by conversion from "waste" materials, particularly used oils, and most particularly used crankcase oils, by flash evaporation at about 250.degree. F. and filtration for removal of solids therefrom, to produce a product substantially free of water and low boiling point components and of contaminant solids, which has a flash point above 310.degree. F., or is blended with other products from the same process to produce a final product having a flash point above 310.degree. F., and an aromatic content above 10%, preferably above 20%, by weight. The product may be used generally in a wide variety of process oil applications but is most particularly adapted for use as a rubber process oil and such use is also part of the present invention.
