  • Patent number: 6296148
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting tampering with a fuel dispenser digital pulse stream during dispensing of a fuel. The method includes generating a digital pulse stream indicative of the volume and flow rate of fuel dispensed wherein the pulse stream includes an identifying pulse anomaly; storing a digital pulse stream signature in a memory device wherein the stored signature includes the identifying pulse anomaly; comparing the incoming digital pulse stream with the stored digital pulse stream; and allowing fuel delivery to continue if the incoming digital pulse stream generated by the pulse generator is substantially similar to the stored digital pulse stream signature.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 2, 2001
    Assignee: Marconi Commerce Systems Inc.
Inventors: Howard M. Myers, John J. Ronchetti, Sr., Randall O. Watkins

  • Patent number: 5724067
Abstract: A system (10) for proportionately spacing a plurality of characters is disclosed. The system includes a memory for storing a character font defining a group of characters which may be individually selected. Each selectable character contains at least one matrix of pixels with each matrix containing a plurality of rows of pixels with each row having pixels extending in a direction of reading of the pixels from the memory. Visible pixels in the at least one matrix of each selectable character define a visible shape which is stored in the memory as a first binary value. Background pixels in the at least one matrix of each selectable character, which are a remainder of a total number of pixels in the at least one matrix of each selectable character, are stored in the memory as a second binary value.

  • Patent number: 5602745
Abstract: A fuel dispenser for installation in a service station equipped with a dispenser control console includes a housing, a pump to pump fuel through the housing, a fuel flow meter in the housing, a switch actuable to indicate fuel is to be pumped through the housing, a display on the housing to display the amount of fuel pumped through the housing, and a dispenser control. The dispenser control includes a plurality of microcontroller nodes and a communications bus connecting the microcontroller nodes. A first node is associated with the switch, pump and fuel flow meter, a second node is associated with the display, and a third node is associated with a data link to the dispenser control console.

  • Patent number: 5029100
Abstract: A fuel dispensing system includes a manifold for receiving one or more grades of fuel at individual input ports and a plurality of output ports. The output ports are each connected to individual input ports of steering valves, the latter having output ports connected to inlets of nozzle and hose assemblies. A controller is included that is site programmable for designating a particular hose/nozzle assembly for dispensing a particular straight grade or blend of fuel. The controller is responsive to the selection of a given nozzle by a user for energizing and controlling one or more flow control valves, and the steering valve associated with the selected nozzle, for delivering the required grade or grades of fuel to the manifold for dispensing the grade of fuel associated with the selected nozzle, in a desired amount under closed loop control.
