  • Patent number: 4612664
Abstract: The present invention consists of a novel device for the production of a tone suitable for use in artificial speech aids. Artificial speech aids provide for a method of speech, for individuals who have either temporarily or permanently lost the use of their vocal cords, through the production and delivery of a substitute vocal tone to the user's oral cavity, thereby allowing such individuals to speak through articulation of the tone into words. The present invention concerns a novel device for the production of the substitute vocal tone. In the present device, the tone is produced by actuating a solenoid reed valve to a sufficient frequency that sound is produced, which sound is then amplified by the passage of pressurized air through the valve as it is actuated. The invention herein includes an electrical pulse generator for producing the pulsed electrical signal needed to operate the solenoid reed valve.

  • Patent number: 4556726
Abstract: Method for producing decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (cyclic pentamer) from octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (cyclic tetramer) by heating said cyclic tetramer in the presence of an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution and a salt of a protonated amine having at least one nitrogen-bonded monovalent hydrocarbon group having 5 to 14 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 4087201
Abstract: An apparatus used in steam turbines for locking a nozzle block and nozzle chamber together. At least one modified cap screw is engaged with the nozzle block and nozzle chamber and tightened to a required torque. A plate is affixed to either two or more modified cap screws or to both a modified cap screw and the surrounding base metal of the nozzle block or nozzle chamber with one rivet passing through the plate into the modified cap screw and a second rivet passing through the plate into the nozzle block, nozzle chamber, or other modified cap screw. The rivets and attaching plate restrain relative motion between the cap screw and the surrounding base metal of the nozzle block or nozzle chamber thus preventing the modified cap screw from loosening.

  • Patent number: 3966023
Abstract: A damping device for limiting motion of nozzle chamber members relative to each other and relative to a casing of a turbine apparatus both in the axial direction and in a transverse plane. The device comprises a friction generating member mounted on a nozzle chamber and disposed in abutting contact with an adjacent nozzle chamber or with the turbine casing. Relative motion between the contacted surfaces of the friction generating member and the surface against which it abuts generates a friction force which limits motion therebetween. The friction generating member is biased by a suitable arrangement disposed in a bore in one of the chambers to maintain contact with the abutting surface. A bias force acting on the friction generating member in a substantially axial direction relative to the bore assists in further maintaining the axial alignment of the members.
