Patent number: 9615545Abstract: A custom-shaped wireless fence system is provided that contains one or more dogs in a user-defined containment area without the need for a physical fence or underground wire. The system, which is easy to set up and use, includes at least three base units and at least one collar and, preferably, a remote controller. A virtual fence is defined around the containment area, as well as around optional exclusion zones within the containment area, during system set up through communication between the base units and a trackable device as the user walks around the desired border. Visualization software enables the user to verify that the location of the fence is as desired and that the system is operating properly using a computing device having a display screen. In use, the system employs improved filtering of consecutive distance measurement values taken between the base units and the collar to discount errant measurement values in terms of their contribution to the current calculation of the dog's location.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2015Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: Christopher T. Rich, Christopher Kamery, Marko Lubic, Wade Patterson, Steve Conrad, Jason S. Gurley, Terry G. Phillips, John J. White

Patent number: 9399884Abstract: A door closer assembly is provided, including a valve regulating an amount of hydraulic fluid that flows through the valve. The amount of hydraulic fluid flowing through the valve controls a force generated by the door closer assembly on a door. A first sensor measures an angular position of the door, and a second sensor measures an angular position of the valve. The angular position of the valve determines the amount of hydraulic fluid flowing through the valve. A controller controls the adjustment of the valve based on the angular position of the door and the angular position of the valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2013Date of Patent: July 26, 2016Assignee: Yale Security Inc.Inventors: David James Copeland, II, Keith James Weepie, Robert L. Tadlock, Jr., Charles E. Burris, John J. White, Jr., Jason Scott Gurley, Steven Michael Faes, Joseph Ralph McGinty, Wade C. Patterson

Patent number: 8297233Abstract: A radial-shaped wireless fence system is provided that contains one or more dogs in a user-defined area without the need for a physical fence or underground wire. The system includes a base unit and at least one collar, and is easy to set up and use. Through improved filtering of consecutive distance measurement values taken between the base unit and the collar, errant measurement values are discounted in terms of their contribution to the current estimate of the dog's distance from the base unit. These filtering techniques, in combination with improved signal strength and antenna diversity in the communication between the base unit and the collar, improve the accuracy and consistency with which the dog's distance from the base unit is tracked so that unwanted corrections are not administered to the dog.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2010Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Woodstream CorporationInventors: Christopher T. Patent number: 5803984Abstract: A system and method for rinsing residue from steel product with a fluid includes a monitoring system for monitoring movement of the steel product and a rinse control system for controlling a pumping system to pump fluid to at least one sprayer and an actuator which can open and close a drain seal in a drain in the rinse tank. The system operates by having the monitoring system monitor the movement of the steel product through the rinse tank and generating a run signal when the steel product is moving and a stop signal when the steel product has stopped moving and the rinse control system controlling the pumping system to pump fluid to at least one sprayer in the rinse tank and the actuator to open the drain seal in the drain in the rinse tank when the run signal is received and to control the actuator to close the drain seal when the stop signal is received.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Danieli Wean, A Division of Danieli CorporationInventors: Richard Lordo, John J. Patent number: 5124686Abstract: The gauge has an outer tube sealed at its lower end and adapted for attachment to the top wall of the tank, and an inner tube axially movable within the outer tube. A float encircles the outer tube and moves freely therealong. First and second magnets respectively attached to the float and to the lower end of the inner tube provide magnetic coupling therebetween so that a rising liquid causes the inner tube to rise with the float. Magnets within the inner tube operate a switch to signal when the first and second magnets are in position for magnetic coupling therebetween. Another magnet is fixed by a set screw to the outside of the inner tube in position for operating the switch when the tank is substantially full. Retaining clips are also disclosed for holding the latter magnet in place.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1990Date of Patent: June 23, 1992Assignee: Midland Manufacturing Corp.Inventors: John J. White, Gaston C. Barmore, Jr.

Patent number: 5020367Abstract: The tank-level gauge comprises an outer tube sealed at its lower end and adapted for attachment to the top wall of a tank. The gauge also comprises two telescoping rods axially movable within the outer tube. A float encircles the outer tube. Magnets respectively attach to the float and to the lower end of the inner gauge rod, whereby a rising level causes such inner rod to rise as well. When the liquid level reaches a predetermined level, the inner gauging rod becomes disconnected and a magnet on the outer gauging rod becomes coupled to the float magnet, whereby the outer gauging rod continues to rise. Indicia on the inner gauging rod provide information on the height of the liquid in the tank from its empty condition to a partly full condition. Indicia on the outer gauging rod provide information on the quantity of liquid in the tank from its partly full condition to its full condition.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1990Date of Patent: June 4, 1991Assignee: Midland Manufacturing Corp.Inventor: John J. White

The gauge also has an inner tube axially movable within the outer tube. A float encircles the outer tube. Magnets respectively attach to the float and to the lower end of the inner tube, whereby a rising liquid causes the inner tube to rise as well. When the liquid level reaches a predetermined high level, a pencil-type magnet mounted within the inner tube operates a switch in an alarm box mounted in the top of the outer tube.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1989Date of Patent: May 15, 1990Assignee: Midland Manufacturing Corp.Inventors: John J.
