  • Publication number: 20150000415
Abstract: This application describes method and apparatus for detecting train separation, where one or more railway cars/carriages (401) accidentally decouple from the rest of the train. The method involves performing distributed acoustic sensing on at least one optical fibre (104a, 104b) to provide a plurality of longitudinal acoustic sensor portions along the railway (201). The acoustic response is analysed to detect a signature indicative of a train separation. This may involve detecting acoustic events (302, 303) associated with different parts of the train and detecting when the separation between the two events exceeds a threshold amount. The method may identify the front of the train and the rear of the train and detect when the distance between the front and rear changes by more than a threshold amount and/or sounds associated with wheelsets passing track features (402) may be used to determine the intervals (T3, T4) between wheelsets of adjacent cars and determine when the interval exceeds a threshold amount.

  • Publication number: 20140300745
Abstract: Methods for determining a property of a trajectory of a ball with a mobile computer device are described, which include: (a) capturing a sequence of video frames of the ball with a camera of the mobile computer device; (b) determining a first picture coordinate of the ball in a first video frame of the sequence; (c) determining a second picture coordinate of the ball in a second video frame of the sequence; and (d) computing a property of the trajectory of the ball based on a difference of the first and second picture coordinates, a time difference between the first and second video picture and a reference quantity, which may be determined based on a form and/or dimension of the ball in a picture taken with the camera.

  • Publication number: 20140095250
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating facilitating management of innovations and accompanying constituent concepts. An example method includes providing a first user option to define one or more alternate solution categories for one or more concepts, wherein each alternate solution category is associated with an innovation comprising a structure of concepts, and wherein an alternate solution category is associated with an alternate solution structure; providing a second user option to define a concept as an alternate solution concept belonging to an alternate solution category; and associating one or more metric attributes with an alternate solution concept. The user options may be provided via a user interface display screen with additional user interface controls for generating analysis pertaining to alternative concept structures in association with one or more metrics, such as supply chain risk, cost, compliance, fulfillment, and/or other product objectives or metrics.

  • Publication number: 20140069173
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of integrity monitoring of a conduit. An optic fibre is provided optic fibre along the path of the conduit, and a fluid in the conduit is pressurized and depressurized. The optic fibre is interrogated to provide a distributed acoustic sensor, and data is sampled from a plurality of longitudinal portions of the fibre during the pressurizing and depressurizing. The data is processed to detect a signal characteristic of the integrity of the conduit.

  • Publication number: 20140061521
Abstract: A packing gland for a valve wherein the packing gland includes a top portion for receiving a gate. The packing gland includes first and second longitudinal sections of packing material for sealing the gate. In addition, the packing gland includes first and second stuffer elements located adjacent the first and second longitudinal portions. The packing gland also includes a plurality of clamp elements located adjacent the first and second stuffer elements, wherein the clamp elements provide pressure on selected portions of the first and second stuffer elements to compress corresponding selected portions of the first and second longitudinal sections of packing material.
