Patent number: 10350779Abstract: A new method for dividing a food product log into separate portions prior to cooking of the portions uses a machine that cuts portions from an end of the product log, a controller that controls the operation of the cutting machine, and a sensing arrangement that generates a signal dependent on a cross-sectional dimension of the product at the end. The controller determines the thickness of the next portion to be cut from the end by the cutting machine using the signal from the sensing arrangement and the value of a cook-out parameter related to the proportion of the end of the product that is formed by at least one constituent of the product. The thickness is calculated with a view to the portion achieving a predetermined target weight after it has been cooked.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2015Date of Patent: July 16, 2019Assignee: THURNE-MIDDLEBY LTD.Inventors: Richard David Seager, John Kelsey

Publication number: 20100288093Abstract: Processing apparatus and methods are provided for use in the division of a food product log(32) into separate portions prior to cooking of the portions. The apparatus includes a machine (2) for cutting portions from an end of the product log, a controller (34) for controlling the operation of the cutting machine, and a sensing arrangement (30) for generating a signal dependent on a cross-sectional dimension of the product at the end. The controller is arranged to determine the thickness of the next portion to be cut from the end by the cutting machine (2) with reference to the signal from the sensing arrangement and to the value of a cook-out parameter related to the proportion of the end of the product which is formed by at least one constituent of the product. The thickness is calculated with a view to the portion achieving a predetermined target weight after it has been cooked.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 13, 2010Publication date: November 18, 2010Applicant: MAREL LTD.Inventors: Richard David Seager, John Kelsey

Patent number: 5956404Abstract: A method for digitally signing a message by a tamper-resistant device to generate a digital signature. The method includes the step of hashing the message to form message bits; and encrypting with a private key the message bits, redundancy bits for the security of the signature, and auditing bits to form the digital signature for the message. The auditing bits provide an audit trail for the message. The auditing bits include one or more of the following categories: signature-packet version bits to identify the version of the device generating the signature; device ID bits to identify the token generating the digital signature; key ID bits to identify the private key; a packet-sequence number, which increments every time the device generates a signature to indicate the sequence of signatures generated; bits generated by hashing the prior signature to provide an auditing trail of signatures generated and a time-stamp to indicate the time when the signature is generated.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1996Date of Patent: September 21, 1999Inventors: Bruce Schneier, John Kelsey

Patent number: 4610112Abstract: An apparatus and method for the grinding and reconditioning of valve seats utilizing adjustable, rotatable satellite grinding wheels to change the diameter of the annular surface defined by the grinding action to match that of the valve, or the faying ring that is to be reconditioned. The satellite wheels are carried, in a freely rotatable manner, on the periphery of a planetary wheel and secured to slide blocks movable within doveways having radial slots for adjustment of the satellite wheels to vary the diameter. Through the utilization of slide blocks with angular faces in conjunction with rasp or file-type rotatable grinding wheels, the pitch of the satellite wheels can be changed, and excess material resulting from the grinding of the valve or faying ring can be cut away, thereby restoring the valve seating surface to the original widths prescribed by the manufacture. This combination also allows the user to change the angle of relief of the valve seating from an unknown to a known angle.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1984Date of Patent: September 9, 1986Inventor: John Kelsey
