Abstract: An improved decorative laminate and method for making the improved decorative laminate having a protective layer, an embossable layer, and a substrate layer; the protective layer being a transparent tough resin material such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with a design printed thereon, the embossable layer being a pigmented embossable resin, and the substrate layer being a fiber material. As a result of the pigmentation of the embossable layer, preferably with the predominant color of the design, scratches through the protective layer are not particularly noticeable since the pigmented embossable layer will be exposed which matches the predominant color of the design.
