  • Patent number: 4213458
Abstract: A medical drainage pouch is provided with a breathable microporous adhesive patch for attaching the pouch to the body of a patient. The pouch includes a moisture-impermeable plastic bag having a drainage opening. A plastic annular retainer ring may be secured to the bag around the drainage opening. The adhesive patch has a thin non-woven porous backing sheet which is relatively easy to tear, and the patch is attached to the bag by a flexible annular attaching ring. The attaching ring may comprise a first layer of plastic and a second layer of hot melt adhesive. The plastic layer of the attaching ring is heat-sealed to the retainer ring or to the bag around a generally circular area of attachment, and the adhesive patch is heat-sealed to the adhesive layer of the attaching ring around a generally circular area of attachment which extends radially outwardly beyond the first area of attachment.

  • Patent number: 4212303
Abstract: An umbilical cord clamp having an improved lock construction. The clamp is of generally V-shaped configuration and includes a pair of flexible arms joined together at the apex of the V by an integral hinge. One of the arms is provided at its free forward end with a flexible tongue; the other arm has a forwardly-facing recess for receiving that tongue as the clamp is closed. A pair of projections extend inwardly from opposite sides of the recess and define sloping ramp surfaces for engaging the tip of the tongue and for flexing the tongue forwardly as the arms of the clamp are squeezed into closed condition. When the clamp is fully closed, the tip of the tongue snaps into position beneath the undercut projections to lock the arms securely together.

  • Patent number: 3954105
Abstract: The invention provides a combination of a sheet of thin pliable material adapted to be placed in sealing engagement with the skin of a patient in the location of a body opening made by an incision or wound, with the sheet being adapted to have an aperture formed therein to expose the opening, together with a removable cap preferably of transparent plastic material which can be adhesively secured to the outer face of the sheet. Drains placed in the body opening can be observed through the cap and the opening can be treated and the tubes withdrawn in increments by simply removing the cap which thereafter can be replaced.
