Patent number: 11859544Abstract: In a closed system that recirculates exhaust gas from a gas turbine engine, recirculated exhaust gas should be mixed into inlet gas in a manner that produces a uniform distribution within the mixed gas, while preventing an excessive pressure drop at the point of mixing, and without needing excessive duct length. Otherwise, the performance of the gas turbine engine may be detrimentally affected. Accordingly, a mixer box is disclosed that injects recirculated exhaust gas into a flow path of inlet gas in a uniform manner. The mixer box may comprise mixer(s) that extend the flow path of the recirculated exhaust gas into the flow path of the inlet gas along two axes. Each mixer may comprise surface apertures and/or interior channels designed to promote uniform ejection of the recirculated exhaust gas from the mixers into the flow path of inlet gas.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2022Date of Patent: January 2, 2024Assignee: Solar Turbines IncorporatedInventors: John Lockyer, Jiang Luo, Stephen Theron, Stephen Burke

Publication number: 20080092547Abstract: A combustor liner assembly includes a liner assembly, including a hot dome, a hot wall, and an impingement shield. The liner assembly further includes a convector assembly. The combustor liner assembly further includes an impingement dome assembly, including a ring-shaped portion defining a plurality of apertures configured to receive a plurality of fuel injectors, and a face. The ring-shaped portion and the face define an annular passage, and the face defines a plurality of apertures and a plurality of orifices. The convector assembly and the impingement dome assembly are operably coupled to one another, and the plurality of orifices of the face are configured such that the hot dome is exposed to air flowing in the annular passage of the impingement dome assembly. The combustor liner assembly is configured to provide flow communication between the annular passage of the impingement dome assembly and the plurality of fuel injectors.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2007Publication date: April 24, 2008Inventors: John Lockyer, Stuart Greenwood, Partha Dutta, Ted Groocock, Michael Fox

Patent number: 6198445Abstract: A conformal load bearing antenna structure for attachment to an aircraft having an outer skin. The conformal load bearing antenna structure comprises a top face sheet and an end fed radiating element disposed thereon. Disposed adjacent to the top face sheet is a dielectric and a structural core disposed adjacent to the dielectric. In the preferred embodiment, a bottom face sheet is disposed adjacent to the structural core and an absorber is disposed adjacent to the bottom face sheet. Accordingly, the top face sheet, the dielectric, the structural core, and the bottom face sheet are configured to provide structural strength to the aircraft when the antenna is attached to the outer skin thereof.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1999Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Northrop Grumman CorporationInventors: Kevin Herman Alt, Michael David Durham, Allen John Lockyer, Daniel Patrick Coughlin, James Kenneth Gath, Jayanth Nandalke Kudva

Patent number: 6175336Abstract: A structural endcap antenna for a vertical tail of an aircraft. The endcap antenna comprises an outer skin having an inner surface and an antenna element disposed adjacent to the inner surface of the outer skin. The antenna element is in electrical communication with an RF signal source. Disposed adjacent to the antenna element is an inner support structure electrically bonded thereto. The antenna element and the inner support structure are excited by the RF signal source and provide structural support to the endcap antenna.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1999Date of Patent: January 16, 2001Assignee: Northrop Grumman CorporationInventors: Daniel Patrick Coughlin, Allen John Lockyer, Michael David Durham, Kevin Herman Alt, Peter Lacombe, Jayanth Nandalke Kudva, Keith Alan Olsen

Patent number: 5988531Abstract: Present fuel injectors fail to be cost effective and with the complexity of recent fuel injectors tend to be labor intensive. The present fuel injector and method of making the fuel injector provides a cost effective fuel injector which reduces the labor intensiveness of manufacturing. The manufacturing of the fuel injector includes the separate formation of a first unitary component, a second unitary component and a third unitary component by individual castings. The unitary components are positioned relative one to another and welded forming the fuel injector having a preestablished configuration. The unitary components are individually cast and each include an as cast complex configuration verses a plurality of individual components being welded in subassemblies and into a final assembly.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Solar TurbinesInventors: Ken Maden, John Lockyer

Patent number: 4201437Abstract: An arrangement for supporting electrical plug-in components which includes a mounting member defining an opening through which extend opposed flexible walls of a retaining unit having a bottom portion which carries one component to be secured, the component engaging the undersurface of the mounting member while shoulders formed on the edges of the retaining unit engage holding fingers extending into the opening of the mounting member. Locking clips are inserted between the electrical component and the retaining unit to prevent withdrawal of the socket and retaining unit. A relay fits between opposed walls of the retaining unit on the other side of the mounting member and includes a pair of radially extending pins which latch the relay to the retaining unit and also extend into recesses in a post fixed to the top of the relay to hold a latch operating knob and the pins to the relay.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1978Date of Patent: May 6, 1980Assignee: Deutsch Relays, Inc.Inventor: John Lockyer
