    Abstract: The swimming pool floor or spa floor drain assembly of the present invention includes a drain body having a mouth positionable in proximity to the pool wall to serve as a fluid flow inlet, a spaced apart fluid flow outlet positionable below the mouth and a sidewall interconnecting the mouth with the outlet to define a fluid flow chamber. The cross sectional area of the fluid flow chamber decreases from the mouth to the base. A fluid deflecting plug includes a comparatively large area top and a comparatively small area base. A sidewall interconnects the top and base to form the plug with a cross sectional area decreasing from the top to the base.

    Abstract: A protruding nozzle assembly, mounted in a side wall of a swimming pool in communication with a source of water, will eject through a nozzle of a nozzle housing a stream of water at a predetermined angle relative to the adjacent side wall surface. During each erection and retraction of the nozzle housing precipitated by initiation and cessation of water flow to the nozzle assembly, the nozzle housing will rotate incrementally to provide a plurality of streams of water defining a fan-like area from each nozzle as such nozzle comes into fluid communication with an opening in a cover enclosing the nozzle housing. Each nozzle is canted to a different angle above the adjacent surface to assist in cleaning sloping parts of the side wall/bottom surface junction and to assist in cleaning any adjacent structures extending from the side wall.

    Abstract: A recessed incrementally rotating nozzle assembly is located in a wall or bottom surface of a swimming pool in fluid communication through a conduit with a source of water under pressure from a valve, which valve periodically releases water into the conduit. Each time water flows, a nozzle housing is raised to eject a stream of water. As the nozzle housing rises, it is incrementally rotated by a pin engaging a saw tooth member of a cam ring. Upon cessation of flow, the nozzle housing is retracted and during retraction the nozzle housing is further incrementally rotated by the pin engaging another saw tooth member of the cam ring. After a predetermined degree of angular rotation, a cam reverser slidably reorients protrusions guiding the pin into and out of the saw tooth members to cause the pin to be guided by the opposite side of the saw tooth members and thereby cause reversal of the direction of rotation of the nozzle housing.

    Abstract: A swimming pool debris collection trap for separating debris from water passing through a pool water recirculating system.The collection trap is located at poolside below pool deck level and comprises a tank having upper and lower seats dividing the tank into upper, lower and intermediate chambers.The intermediate chamber between the seats is connected to the pool by a trap suction line. Water from the suction line flows into the open upper end of a foraminous container resting upon the lower seat and extending into the lower chamber. The container traps debris but allows water to flow into the lower chamber for return to the pool through a trap discharge line.The container is removable through a cap opening provided in the intermediate chamber and normally closed by a sealing cap.A balance passage connects the pool to the upper chamber for filling it with water to a level above the upper seat.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing sediment such as leaves and debris from a pool by inducing turbulence in the pool water to stir up the sediment within local regions of the pool, and directing a steady jet of water from a stationary jet to provide a fixed direction gathering stream or pathway to capture and carry the sediment to the inlet of a leaf receiver which is fixed in position at the end of the pathway. Local area turbulence can be achieved in various ways, including the use of manual sweep brooms, water jet propelled devices carrying flexible sweep hoses, or an arrangement of rotary nozzles operative to sweep across and induce turbulence over camparatively large local regions of the pool. The leaf receiver in connected by a conduit to an externally located foraminous leaf collector mounted in a collector tank from which water is pumped, leaving the collected leaves in the leaf collector. An access cover in the pool deck can be opened to reach and withdraw the leaf collector for emptying.

    Abstract: A pool cleaning apparatus weighted to rest on a pool bottom. The apparatus includes a manifold for discharging water under pressure into a plurality of sweep hoses and into a plurality of venturi jets. The sinuous action of the sweep hoses places small foreign particles in suspension, and tends to draw larger debris such as leaves toward the inner ends of the hoses. The jets discharge into a venturi chamber which is spaced above the pool bottom by support legs. This induces a flow of pool water into the venturi chamber, carrying the larger debris through the venturi chamber for collection in a removable debris or leaf bag.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to apparatus for cleaning swimming pools, incorporating intermittent pop-up jet nozzles, the nozzles being adapted to intermittently rotate and project cleaning jets of water adjacent the inner surface of the pools. Wear and tear on the nozzle housing and related parts is minimized by use of a water delivery assembly in which the stop means for arresting upward movement of the nozzle are located in the lower part of the housing, thus eliminating bending moment of stress force against the housing and related parts. The inclusion of a retainer or cage within the housing provides other improvements in the operation of the water delivery assembly.
