  • Patent number: 8068551
Abstract: A method for designing a reference signal to be transmitted in a multiplexed cellular system is described. A first set of matrices that comprises a plurality of matrices is selected. An optimal partition of the first set of matrices is determined. A third matrix is formed. The third matrix represents a cross-correlation of a second matrix and each of the plurality of first matrices. A minimum corresponding to the first set of matrices is set. The second matrix is updated using the minimum corresponding to the first set of matrices. Each column of the second matrix is scaled by a first value.

  • Publication number: 20110269489
Abstract: A method for assigning and coordinating uplink reference signals for cooperative communication is disclosed. Data about an assigned uplink reference signal sequence used by a wireless communication device is received at a non-serving base station. An uplink reference signal estimate is determined based on the data. The uplink reference signal estimate is used to coherently demodulate a signal received from the wireless communication device or is used to estimate an uplink channel between the non-serving base station and the wireless communication device.

  • Patent number: 8041364
Abstract: A method for transmitting control information may include providing formatting rules that define a format for transmission of the control information to a base station via a control signaling channel. The control information may include a channel quality indicator (CQI), an acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (ACK/NACK), a pre-coding matrix indicator (PMI), and rank information. The method may also include providing combination rules as part of the formatting rules. The combination rules may define how the CQI, the ACK/NACK, the PMI, and the rank information are combined for transmission on the control signaling channel. The method may also include transmitting the control information to the base station via the control signaling channel in accordance with the defined formatting rules.

  • Publication number: 20110246840
Abstract: A communication device configured for transmission of Acknowledgement and Negative Acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) is described. The communication device includes a processor and instructions stored in memory. The communication device determines one or more thresholds based on a size of one or more code words and generates a compressed ACK/NACK sequence. The compressed ACK/NACK sequence identifies one or more correctly received code words and one or more incorrectly received code words if the number of incorrectly received code words is less than the threshold. If the number of incorrectly received code words is greater than the threshold, the compressed ACK/NACK sequence indicates that all of the one or more code words were incorrectly received.

  • Patent number: 7924782
Abstract: A method for assigning reference signal sequences for communication devices using a genetic algorithm is described. Reference signal sequences are assigned to each cell within a plurality of cells. A fitness function for each reference signal sequence is computed. The fitness function describes the effectiveness of the assignment. A first group of cells is selected to exchange their corresponding assignment information with assignment information corresponding to a second group of cells. The reference signal is assigned to a communications device within the area of one of the plurality of cells.

  • Publication number: 20110080880
Abstract: A method for transmitting uplink control information (UCI) using a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) transmit diversity scheme is described. A UCI is coded with a Forward Error Correction code to obtain a coded UCI. The coded UCI is mapped to quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) symbols to obtain a mapped coded UCI. A phase shift pattern is selected. A phase shift from the phase shift pattern is applied to the mapped coded UCI based on an acknowledge/negative-acknowledge (ACK/NACK) to obtain a phase shifted mapped coded UCI. The mapped coded UCI is sent using a PUCCH resource on a first antenna. The phase shifted mapped coded UCI is sent using a PUCCH resource on a second antenna.

  • Publication number: 20110081875
Abstract: A wireless communication device may autonomously transition from a multiple antenna port mode to a single antenna port mode. The wireless communication device may implicitly notify a base station about the autonomous transition from the multiple antenna port mode to the single antenna port mode. The base station may reallocate resources that were previously allocated to the wireless communication device but that are no longer being used by the wireless communication device. In some cases, the base station may configure the wireless communication device's antenna port mode via radio resource control signaling.

  • Publication number: 20100322185
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to component carrier (CC) selection in a wireless communication system. A user equipment (UE) that is in idle mode may receive a reference signal (RS) from an evolved Node B (eNB), obtain signal quality measurements with respect to the RS, and switch to a new CC based on the signal quality measurements. For a UE that is in connected mode, an eNB may obtain uplink channel condition information corresponding to uplink CCs, obtain downlink channel condition information corresponding to downlink CCs, and select a CC pair for the UE to use based on the uplink channel condition information and the downlink channel condition information.

  • Publication number: 20100235709
Abstract: A method of encoding that uses standard codecs such as linear encoders and decoders for encoding and decoding data with different levels of robustness to errors is described. In one configuration, multiple encoders may be utilized, and one of the encoders may use a standard encoder such as a turbo code followed by a nonlinearity that creates an unequal distribution of ones and zeros in a binary representation of the code. In another configuration, a coder may be utilized that represents message outputs as “channels” that create state transitions (or symbol errors) in a data forward error correction coder.

  • Publication number: 20100097922
Abstract: A method for generating sequences that are nearest to a set of sequences with minimum average cross-correlation is described. Each element of a set of sequences is projected to a nearest constellation point. The set of sequences is converted into a time domain representation. An inverse discrete Fourier Transform (IDFT) is performed on the set of sequences. A cubic metric of each sequence of the set of sequences is evaluated.
