    Abstract: A two-stage, screw-fed vertical mechanical separator for separating a low viscosity material from a high viscosity material, wherein the bulk of the low viscosity material is removed in the first stage and the high viscosity material is heated as a result of mechanical working through a restriction into a second stage and subjected to a vacuum to flash off residual low viscosity material.
