Publication number: 20190108199Abstract: The subject technology discloses configurations for determining a minimum dots per inch (DPI) setting for displaying graphical content in a window based on a native pixel density of a display. Respective graphical content is scaled for displaying in a first window based on the minimum DPI setting to fit a horizontal dimension of the first window. The subject technology then scales respective graphical content for displaying in a second window based on the minimum DPI setting to fit a horizontal dimension of the second window. In some configurations, the graphical content in the first window is scaled at a different DPI setting than the graphical content in the second window.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2018Publication date: April 11, 2019Inventors: Stefan KUHNE, Alexander Friedrich KUSCHER, Scott Ronald VIOLET, John Nicholas JITKOFF

Patent number: 10088999Abstract: A system and machine-implemented method for providing a visual cue of overscrolling displayed content on an electronic device. When the end of a scrollable page or content has been reached, the visual cue corresponds to the user's physical scrolling input. The content in the window is effectively attached to the window so that when the end of the content is reached in one direction, the window containing the content is pulled in the same scrolling direction. The pulling in the scrolling direction occurs in a logarithmically decreasing manner, providing a tactile-like visual effect that the outer frame of the window is resisting the attempt to scroll further in the scrolling direction. The visual resistance effect may include squishing or stretching portions of the window without distorting the content within the window.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2016Date of Patent: October 2, 2018Assignee: GOOGLE LLCInventors: Alexander Friedrich Kuscher, Roma Rajni Shah, John Nicholas Jitkoff

Patent number: 9990763Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for analyzing and determining properties of virtual environments rendered on a display. The disclosed embodiments include, for example, a method for rendering a virtual environment, the method comprising operations performed with one or more processors. The operations of the method may include generating a plurality of object layers, the object layers representing permissible height values. The method may also include populating the environment with a plurality of objects, wherein each object is associated with a height value corresponding to one of the object layers. The method may also include determining whether any two objects form an occluded pair. The method may also include calculating a cast shadow index for each occluded pair reflecting a magnitude of a height differential between occluding object and the occluded object. The method may also include rendering the virtual environment in accordance with the calculated cast shadow indices.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2015Date of Patent: June 5, 2018Assignee: Google LLCInventors: Ariel Sachter-Zeltzer, Christian Robertson, Jon Wiley, John Nicholas Jitkoff, Zachary Gibson, David Haw Yun Chiu
