  • Patent number: 8151608
Abstract: An electronic lock box contains a mechanical structure that allows the lock box to work in several different mechanical states. A first state is a key compartment door unlocking state, while a second state is a shackle release state. A third state is a “soft lock” state, which allows the key compartment door to be closed, or the shackle to be re-installed, and once this has occurred, the door will not fall open, and the shackle will not fall out. A fourth state is a “hard lock” state in which the key compartment door and the shackle are not easily disturbed by vibration or intentional impact by a would-be thief, who is attempting to unlawfully open the door or remove the shackle.

  • Patent number: 5772098
Abstract: A pawl-type assembly for pulling a coiled strip of nails form a canister-type magazine of a nail driving tool and introducing the forwardmost nail of the strip into the drive track of the tool to be driven by the tool driver into a workpiece. The guide body of the tool defines the drive track and has a fixed wall and an openable wall forming there between a passage for the strip of nails from the canister-type magazine to the drive track. The pawl is shiftable by the piston rod of an air cylinder between a rearward position wherein it engages a nail near the forwardmost nail of the strip and a forward position wherein the nearby forwardmost nail of the strip is located in the drive track ready to be driven. The pawl is provided with ledge-like surfaces which, when the pawl is in its forwardmost position, engage the fixed wall of the guide body in such a way as to prevent pawl displacement during the fastener driving portion of the tool cycle.

  • Patent number: 5697541
Abstract: A canister-type magazine for the class of fastener driving tool which uses a coil of tandemly arranged fasteners. The magazine comprises a substantially cylindrical body having a top, a bottom and a side wall, and is made up of a fixed body part and a movable body part. The fixed body part has a forward end attached to the tool fastener feed mechanism and a rearward end attached to the tool handle. The fixed body part comprises the top and a segment of the side wall of the magazine. The movable body part has forward and rearward ends and comprises the bottom, the fastener coil support surface, and the remainder of the side wall of the magazine. The movable body part is pivotally affixed at its rearward end to a hinge member. The hinge member, in turn, is adjustably mounted in a hinge member support constituting a portion of the rearward end of the fixed body part.

  • Patent number: 5511715
Abstract: A power tool has a flywheel for driving a working member such as the driver of a fastener tool. A motor mounted at a rear end of a tool handle drives the flywheel mounted in a tool housing at the forward end of the handle. A cable is secured to a drum and to the working member. A clutch selectively couples the flywheel to the drum to wind up the cable and drive the working member forcefully. A return cable is wound on the driver drum against a spring bias to rewind the drum, unwind the cable and return the working member to its prior status when the clutch decouples the flywheel from the drum. When coupled to the drum, the motor speed and flywheel speed is reduced. An electronic control operates the motor to recapture the initial speed within 500 milliseconds of the speed reduction. The electronic control includes a phase-locked loop velocity control.

  • Patent number: 5320270
Abstract: An electromechanical tool for driving fasteners into a workpiece. The tool uses a single flywheel in combination with a clutch mechanism whereby a conically shaped flywheel frictionally cooperates with a corresponding drum to cause a driver which is coupled to the drum by a cable to be pulled with considerable force through a working stroke to drive a fastener from the tool.

  • Patent number: 4986164
Abstract: A pneumatic gun having an improved firing valve is disclosed wherein the firing valve is sealingly secured to the housing of the gun by a pair of rolling diaphragm seals. On the underside of the firing valve, there is a deflector having a downwardly curled outer edge operative to direct air flow into the top of the cylinder upon opening of the firing valve. The firing valve is so configured that exposure of multiple differential areas of the valve to a common high pressure results in the valve being biased toward a sealed position relative to the cylinder of the gun while in the unfired position.

  • Patent number: 4964558
Abstract: An electromechanical flywheel containing fastener driving tool. The tool comprises a frame supporting a housing, a guide body and a fastener containing magazine. A free floating driver within said frame. Forward and rearward flywheels are arranged in tandem within the tool frame with their peripheral surfaces opposed. A pair of beam-like arcuate load springs are located to either side of the frame. The load spring rearward ends carry bearings in which the shaft of the rearward flywheel is journaled. The load spring forward ends carry rotatable eccentric bearing housings in which the shaft of the forward flywheel is journaled. The bearing housings are rotatable to shift the forward flywheel between operative and inoperative positions wherein the opposed surfaces of the flywheels are spaced by a distance less than and a distance greater than the thickness of the driver, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4519535
Abstract: An improved flywheel for an electro-mechanical tool, such as a nailer or stapler. The tool is of the type provided with a driver which is frictionally moved through a working stroke by means of an electrically driven flywheel which presses the driver against a support element, such as a counterrotating flywheel, a low inertia roller, or the like. The flywheel is provided with circumferential grooves while maintaining the optimum contact area between the flywheel and the driver. The grooves provide voids along the travelling driver-flywheel contact line into which foreign material on the driver and flywheel flows to prevent build-up of such foreign material at the driver-flywheel contact area sufficient to result in loss of friction therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4436237
Abstract: There is disclosed an automatic firing system for pneumatic tools wherein there is a remote valve to produce actuation of the main valve of the device which remote valve has only one moving part, combined with a selector valve, by means of which the tool may be converted from single fire to auto-fire modes, and in the auto-fire mode the rate of fire may be controlled. The pneumatic circuitry is such that less compressed air is used than in conventional auto-fire tools and thus the tool is more economical than prior art tools.
