  • Patent number: 4793459
Abstract: A conveyor roller comprises a steel roller tube fitted with end cap assemblies incorporating bearings for rotatably mounting the roller tube on a fixed shaft. Each end cap assembly comprises a rigid housing which supports the bearing, and a separate collar of resilient plastics material mounted on the housing. The axially inner end portion of the collar has an annular recess which receives a radial flange on the housing, and the axially outer end portion of the collar consists of inner and outer tubular walls which are spaced apart prior to fitting of the end cap assembly in the roller tube. The external surface of the inner tubular wall is curved radially inwards and axially outwards. Each end cap assembly is secured in position by swaging the end of the tube so as to force the outer wall of the collar against the inner wall along its length.

  • Patent number: 4626113
Abstract: A cage for a radial ball bearing comprises an annular body of resilient material formed with pockets for reception of the balls as a snap fit and prongs for guiding the balls into the pockets when the annular body is fitted in the bearing from a side thereof. A retainer ring is mounted on the guide prongs to maintain the same cord distance between the prongs and thereby restrict deformation of the annular body so as to prevent ejection of the annular body under the ball-to-cage contact forces in the operation of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4373759
Abstract: A conveyor roller comprises a roller tube fitted with end cap assemblies incorporating bearings for rotatably mounting the roller tube on a fixed shaft. Each end cap assembly is a self-contained unit comprising a housing, a ball bearing mounted in the housing, and an end cover having an annular flange extending as a close fit through the inner bearing ring and secured therein by abutments on the flange engaging opposite sides of the inner bearing ring. The end cover has a central bore for reception of the shaft as a close sliding fit. The housing and the end cover have annular concentric tongues which are interleaved to form an annular labyrinth passageway providing a seal between the housing and the end cover. The inner end of the labyrinth passageway is closed by an annular seal compressed between the housing and the end cover.

  • Patent number: 4126362
Abstract: A plastic cage for a ball bearing in which flexible wipers are disposed between the ball pockets and extend axially at least as far as the projections which define the mouths of the pockets.
