Patent number: 9217267Abstract: An adjustable hinge set and a method for making it improves mounting of a deck lid to a motor vehicle body by permitting mass production adjustments without distortion or multiplication of the parts installed. A hinge set bracket with spaced flanges receiving a pivot strap and pivot therebetween is formed with a substantially vertical slot in each flange. At least one insert having a collar and a stem, reinforces the spacing between the support flanges, as the pivot pin compressionally engages the flanges. Preferably, two inserts having a collar and a stem have a combined length that reinforces the predetermined spacing within a predetermined tolerance when compression is adjusted.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2014Date of Patent: December 22, 2015Assignee: Techform Products LimitedInventors: Michael J. Duffy, John R. Beckwith, David J. Smallwood

Patent number: 4706334Abstract: A passenger car rear compartment lid hinge and torque rod arrangement is disclosed having both releasable and permanent torque rod holders that cooperate with the torque rod to automatically preload the latter with initial lid movement.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1986Date of Patent: November 17, 1987Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: John R. Patent number: 4672715Abstract: An improved hinge assembly is provided that dampens the movement of a spring biased and notched hold open detent link pivoted to the door mounted hinge strap, thereby giving a smoother movement to that hinge strap, and consequently to the door. A molded dampening pad is fixed to the detent link with a surface adjacent to an edge of the detent link. A cam roller engageable with the detent link edge is pivoted on a stop pin fixed to the body mounted hinge strap. The stop pin has a cylindrical surface that is also adjacent to the detent link edge. As the cam roller rolls along the detent link and into the notches, the surface of the dampening pad engages the cylindrical surface of the stop pin to dampen the movement of the detent link.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1985Date of Patent: June 16, 1987Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: John R. Patent number: 4580315Abstract: A hinge assembly for a vehicle deck lid is disclosed. The hinge assembly includes a stationary hinge member, a hinge strap secured to the deck lid and pivotally connected to the stationary hinge member, a lever pivotally supported by the hinge member at a location spaced from the pivotal connection of the hinge strap, a torsion rod for biasing the lever into engagement with a roller rotatably carried by the hinge strap, the lever having a cam surface and the torsion rod having a bias such that it causes the deck lid to be automatically raised at a controlled rate upon the deck lid being opened.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1983Date of Patent: April 8, 1986Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: John R. Patent number: 4350144Abstract: A system for heating domestic hot water includes solar collectors for raising the temperature of the water in the usual hot water storage tank. When a tap is opened, the water is drawn out of the tank and directed through a mixing valve which checks the temperature of the water and, if necessary, adjusts the temperature to an intermediate temperature somewhat below the temperature at which the water is to be used. The water then passes through a heater in which the temperature of the water is quickly raised to the elevated temperature at which it is normally used in households.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1980Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: Stanford Associates, Inc.Inventor: John R. Patent number: 4082927Abstract: An electrical magnetic switch adaptable for use in a digital wristwatch in which a command function for a digital wristwatch is controlled by a switch or an actuator. The magnetic switch is normally open and is closed by the movement of the wrist of the wearer to overcome the magnetic force from a permanent magnet on a magnetizable movable armature. The displacement of the magnetizable movable armature against the urgency of the magnetic force closes a circuit for performing a command function for the digital wristwatch. For regulating the magnitude of force on which the magnetizable movable armature is displaced against the urgency of the magnetic force of the permanent magnet, means are provided for adjustably positioning the permanent magnet relative to the path of travel of the magnetizabe movable armature. Alternatively, the movable armature may be a permanent magnet and the adjustably positioned means may be made of magnetizable material.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1976Date of Patent: April 4, 1978Inventor: John R.
