  • Patent number: 7261768
Abstract: Liquid coating solutions impart hydrophobicity to substrate surfaces (e.g., glass) and include a silane, preferably octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS), dissolved in a liquid paraffinic solvent. Preferred liquid paraffinic solvents are normal (straight chain) liquid parrafins having between 10 to 20 carbon atoms per molecule exhibiting flash points (ASTM D93) of between about 70° C. to about 160° C., and initial boiling points (ASTM D86) of between about 185° C. to about 300° C. The OTS will be present in the hydrophobic solutions in amounts sufficient to form a hydrophobic coating on surfaces of substrates on which the solutions are applied, and most preferably will be present in amounts ranging between about 0.25 to about 2.5 molar. Applying a coating of the solution onto a substrate surface will allow the OTS for form a self-assembled monolayer thereon imparting hydrophobicity to the substrate as determined by a high contact angle of at least about 100°.

  • Patent number: 7108889
Abstract: There is provided a technique for interleaving glass sheets (which may or may not be provided with low-E coatings thereon) during shipment, transport, storage, and/or the like. In certain example embodiments, the glass sheet interleaving material includes a mixture of: polymer inclusive beads or particles of material such as polymethymethacrylate, and a stearate such as an acid stearate or the metal salt of an acid stearate. The interleaving material mixture may be applied to the glass sheets in any suitable manner.

  • Patent number: 6348159
Abstract: A method for etching substrates, comprising providing at least a first and a second substrate having a coating selected from the group consisting of semiconductor coatings, metallic coatings, and mixtures thereof and introducing at least the first substrate and an etchant into a first tank to etch at least a portion of the coating from the first substrate, introducing at least the second substrate into a second tank and transferring the etchant from the first tank to the second tank to provide etch of at least a portion of the coatings from the second substrate, and removing the etched first substrate from the first tank.

  • Patent number: 5545483
Abstract: Polyamide microcapsules are reacted with an isocyanate emulsion to reduce microcapsule yellowing and decrease microcapsule permeability when used in carbonless copying systems. The isocyanate reacts with the surface of the polyamide shell to close discontinuities in the shell and improve impermeability. The isocyanate also reacts with free amines in the capsule slurry to reduce the presence of free amines that cause yellowing.
