  • Patent number: 7127295
Abstract: The device and method for placement of an instrument, specifically electrodes, in the GI tract allows for placement of electrodes for gastric electrical stimulation into the gastric wall using endoscopic techniques. The device has one or more electrodes disposed on an elongated body having a pointed first end and a bolster disposed on a second end. When placed within the GI tract, the first end of the device extends through the gastric and abdominal walls, extending outside of the patient's body with the bolster in contact against the inner lining of the gastric wall to retain the device. Exposed electrodes contact the gastric smooth muscle. Insulated wires in electrical connection with-the electrodes run the length of the device body. Once the device is placed, the first end of the device body is removed to expose the wires, allowing electrical connection to an external electrical signal generator to provide electrical stimulus.

  • Publication number: 20040031736
Abstract: A filter element for a fluid filtration system, particularly for piston cooling jets used in reciprocating piston engines, is formed from a length of filter material arranged helically in a substantially tubular form. By applying a torque the length of filter material is resiliently expandable to a fitting position in which opposing longitudinal edges of the length are spaced apart from each other. The filter element is then fitted over a fluid chamber of the filtration system and allowed to retract to a rest position in which the opposing longitudinal edges are close or in contact. In the rest position the filter element surrounds the fluid chamber and covers a fluid inlet of the fluid chamber. The filter element of the invention can be used to apply local filtration, and can be readily removed for cleaning or replacement by reversing the fitting process.

  • Patent number: 6562758
Abstract: Concurrent or sequential application of an auxin transport inhibitor and a defoliating agent synergistically improve defoliation of crop plants and minimize crop plant regrowth. Preferably, the auxin transport inhibitor is a semicarbazone compound. The defoliating agent may be an ethylene response or ethylene-type response agent such as a phosphonic acid derivative. Most preferably, the semicarbazone compound is diflufenzopyr and the phosphonic acid derivative is ethephon (i.e., ethephon (2-chloroethyl) phosphonic acid).

  • Patent number: 6284711
Abstract: Late season termination of reproductive plant growth of a plant having an indeterminate growth pattern is achieved by the application of a semicarbazone plant growth regulator to a locus of a growing plant at a time following peak bloom of the plant. The semicarbazone is applied as an active ingredient in an amount sufficient to terminate continued reproductive growth of the plant without substantially affecting mature reproductive growth existing on the plant at the time of application. Most preferably, the semicarbazone is diflufenzopyr.

  • Patent number: 5309332
Abstract: A light table is used in connection with an underlying portable light source to illuminate a pattern disposed between the light table and an overlying fabric sheet. The light table includes a portable frame which spaces a translucent upper plate from a lower supporting surface over the light source. The frame also includes a downwardly facing peripheral frame channel which is utilized to clamp the overlying fabric sheet to the light table. More particularly, a plurality of resilient, one-piece hold-down clamps are placed about the periphery of the light table to firmly hold portions of the fabric sheet to the table to minimize relative movement therebetween. The clamps include a lower bracket bent into a resilient arch. The clamps snap into place about the periphery of the light table such that the arch-like lower bracket cooperates with the peripheral frame channel.

  • Patent number: 4921006
Abstract: Vacuum regulator apparatus comprising: a valve that in use is arranged to admit air to a vacuum system that in operation is at a sub-atmospheric pressure, the apparatus being so arranged that an increase in the pressure in the vacuum system tends to cause less air to be admitted to the vacuum system by the regulator apparatus, and vice versa; means responsive to the position of the said valve arranged to give a first signal if air is being admitted at more than a first predetermined rate and a second signal if air is being admitted at less than a second predetermined rate lower than the first; and pressure-responsive means arranged to give a third signal if the pressure in the vacuum system is outside a predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 4827847
Abstract: A spinning tubular projectile (STUP) is subcalibre to reduce both retard and the gyroscopic stability. The total effect is to reduce crosswind sensitivity and to obtain a better ballistic match with an armour piercing fin stabilized, discarding sabot (APFSDS) round. To reduce the range to that desired for a limited range practice round, the STUP is equipped with spin-damping fins on its surface near the projectile center of gravity.
