Patent number: 6298640Abstract: To improve the safety of horseback riding, a fabric saddle with hook fastener strips sewed to its side fenders attaches to the horse using a new design of harness that gives the rider the ability to mechanically make a secondary tightening of that harness around the horse after the standard initial manual girth strap tightening has been done. This secondary tightening has the characteristic of being controlled so as not to harm the horse yet it snugs the saddle up so there is much less likelihood of the saddle slipping off the horse's back. As the rider mounts, the loop fastener strips on the rider's pants legs match with the hook fastener strips on the saddle and hold the rider onto the animal so the rider is not accidentally thrown off the horse. Quick dismount is not inhibited since the hook and loop fastener strips separate readily when the riders kick their legs away from the horse.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1999Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Inventor: John R. Schneider

Patent number: 5753927Abstract: A majority voted multiple-fault tolerant power switch for delivering power from a power source to an intended load. The power switch includes an optical voter, which has a photo conductor array for receiving optical voter input commands from a control system and for selecting a voter output from the majority of the input commands. An electronic power switch receives power input from the power source. The power switch is controlled by the voter output. An output from the power switch is connected to the intended load. A voltage source supplies the voltage to the optical voter. An operational amplifier circuit is connected to the electronic power switch to limit over current and inhibit reverse current in the electronic power switch.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1995Date of Patent: May 19, 1998Assignee: Boeing North American, Inc.Inventor: John R. Patent number: 5630258Abstract: The present invention features a magnetic assembly which has one half formed by one male magnetized part and the other half formed by one female magnetized part, both of which mate together, using very close tolerances so that there is no space noticeable between the two magnetically-closed parts. This close proximity between the two parts prevents either from being accidentally dislodged. The male post extends beyond the reverse side of the female magnet into which it has been placed, so that the user can push against the end of the male post to force it back out of the female hole. This action forces the two halves of the magnetic fastener assembly apart, allowing them to be disengaged from one another and to be able to open the fastener with the use of just one hand on the part of the user.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1995Date of Patent: May 20, 1997Inventor: John R. Schneider

Patent number: 5626013Abstract: For the movement of work-in-process materials on a storage or manufacturing floor, a grid of computer-controlled, unmanned jib cranes is established. The cranes' operational areas overlap. A crane can place an individual part or a magazine of parts on an elevated, revolving pedestal which then automatically rotates 180 degrees so that the next crane in line can pick up these materials and move them into its own area. The hand of the crane is moved so that it can place its load directly into the position in the machine tool where it undergoes its next process. The arm of the jib crane is fully retractable and computer-controlled, using a laser integrated into the computer's system to aid in detecting the crane's hand location at each delivery position that the crane visits. The jib cranes can lift parts up to a level that places them near the ceiling of the manufacturing floor area.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1994Date of Patent: May 6, 1997Inventor: John R. Schneider

Patent number: 5560300Abstract: To provide a railroad car design that allows the car to travel at high speeds over current roadbeds at very low fuel costs per mile a special rail is formed. This rail has the form of a wave shaped on its top with the troughs and crests of the wave repeating themselves every several feet apart continuously down both tracks for the whole distance of the railroad. When a wheel of this multi-wheeled car comes over the crest of a wave it has encountered as it moves down this wave formed track, the wheel immediately begins supporting its computer calculated portion of the weight of the car on a cushion of air pressure forced into its supporting air cylinder at that moment and rolls down the face of the wave in its desired direction of travel.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Inventor: John R. Schneider

Patent number: 5423164Abstract: A device to secure the rider of a horse or other beast of burden to the animal without the need for a rigid saddle. This device also prevents the rider's bouncing when riding the animal. The preferred embodiment of this invention utilizes a strong fabric such as canvas or wool to form a blanket that covers the horse's back and sides and is strapped to the horse by attached strapping so it holds its position on the horse at all times. Sewed to this blanket in a central position are hook and loop fastener strips whose second, mating half strips are likewise sewn to the rider's pants or chaps so they are opposite the hook and loop fastener strips on the horse's blanket and mate with them when the rider is astride the horse. A disengaging device, which can interrupt the hook and loop fastener strip's bonding, is also provided to allow the rider to separate the fastener strips before leaving the horse.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1994Date of Patent: June 13, 1995Inventor: John R. Schneider

Patent number: 5154828Abstract: A filter aid material and a method for using same in a filtration system for reclaiming and maintaining coolant oil used in aluminum rolling or working processes are disclosed. The filter aid is a fibrous material which is permeated with an acid material and may be provided in either particulate form as a body feed or as a compressed filter pad. As contamined oil flows through the filter aid, the acid acts chemically to remove aluminum fines and oxides as well as the aluminum portion of contaminating soap in the coolant oil. Use of the filter aid with acid greatly reduces the amount of conventional filter aid previously used and produces a relatively small amount of residual filter aid which can be disposed of by incineration.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1992Date of Patent: October 13, 1992Assignee: J. R. Schneider Co. Inc.Inventors: John R. Schneider, John O. McLean
