  • Patent number: 10704127
Abstract: A method of forming an airfoil includes placing a material onto a die that is heated to a predetermined temperature to pre-heat the material to a first temperature, while the die is in an open position. The method further includes closing the die at a predetermined rate and holding the die in a closed position for a predetermined period of time at a first force. The method still further includes removing the part from the die, cooling the die, placing the part onto the die, and closing the die at a second force.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 2016
Date of Patent: July 7, 2020
    Assignee: RAYTHEON TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION
Inventors: John Richard Palitsch, James O. Hansen, Nicolas Figueiredo, Daniel Gynther, Stephen E. Graushinsky, John H. Nortrup

  • Patent number: 9248493
Abstract: A forging die and tooling stack consist of a top and bottom die set positioned on a pusher plate in a die holder. Prior art die and tooling stack designs with rectangular axial cross sections concentrated loading toward the radial center of the stack. By contouring the top surface of the pusher plate and the bottom surface of the die holder, loading at the bottom of the stack can be redistributed to reduce non-uniform loading of components beneath the stack in the load train.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 2011
Date of Patent: February 2, 2016
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
