Patent number: 9113721Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a restraint system for an infant support such as a highchair. The restraint system includes a restraining member adapted to pass through an aperture formed into the infant support. The restraining member includes a stop member selectively operable to pass through the aperture. Specifically, the stop member is configured to pass through the aperture when in a first orientation relative to the slot, but cannot pass through aperture when positioned in a second (e.g., opposite) orientation relative to the slot. With this configuration, the unintended separation of the restraint system from the infant support may be prevented. Additionally, with this configuration, the accidental tightening of the shoulder straps on a restrained child by a sibling pulling on the straps from behind the seat is also prevented.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2012Date of Patent: August 25, 2015Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Daniel M. Dignitti, John S. Canna

Patent number: 8556349Abstract: A bouncing seat for a child includes a seat support having an opening for receiving the child, a base, a post connected to and extending upwardly from the base, and first and second arms extending outwardly from a distal end of the post. The first and second arms are connected to the seat support, thereby connecting the seat support to the base. The post is aligned with the opening.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2010Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Juliette Marlene Welch, John S. Canna, Theresa R. Rojek, Gregory Scott Young

Publication number: 20110227384Abstract: A reconfigurable support system for children a universal seat and a plurality of base frames such as a toddler seat frame, a high chair frame, an infant seat frame, and a swing frame. The arms of the seat define receptacles that receive a portion of each frame. A locator assembly enables the seat to be coupled to each frame in a predetermined orientation. A lock mechanism removably secures the seat to each frame. The support system further includes support legs that selectively connect to the frames and support the frames over a supporting surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2011Publication date: September 22, 2011Applicant: MATTEL, INC.Inventors: Kurt J. Huntsberger, John S. Canna, Daniel Dignitti, Michael J. Lundeen, Todd J. Huthmaker

Patent number: 7455353Abstract: The infant product of the invention is of the type having an infant receptacle suspended from a frame. The infant product is foldable between a deployed position for use and a compact configuration for shipping and storage. In the assembled configuration, the infant receptacle is convertible between a bassinet configuration in which the infant receptacle has a substantially planar support surface and an infant seat configuration in which the support surface of the infant receptacle is partially titled or disposed at an angle such that the infant can be supported in an elevated or seated position. The infant product may include a fabric canopy incorporating floating webs and a quick connect system for securing the canopy in an open position. When the canopy is closed, it is folded so as to lie flat against the infant receptacle. The infant receptacle may also include a lateral support assembly to cradle the infant.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2006Date of Patent: November 25, 2008Assignee: Mattel, Inc.Inventors: Julia Favorito (nee Wilkins), John S. Canna, Sandra M. Darling, Kenneth Von Felten, Brian L. Badger
