  • Patent number: 4308801
Abstract: A wear-resistant liner for center plate structure of a railway vehicle is provided and such liner is defined by an ultra high molecular weight polymeric material having metal reinforcing means embedded in and surrounded by the polymeric material which serves as a matrix for the reinforcing means and the metal reinforcing means comprises a metal structure having openings therein for receiving the polymeric material completely therethrough and enabling better embedment of the metal structure with the metal structure providing reinforcement and preventing cold flow of the polymeric material, and with the metal structure being a grid-like structure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 8, 1979
Date of Patent: January 5, 1982
    Assignee: Dayco Corporation
Inventors: Jerry W. Cooper, Homer N. Holden, Doyle V. Haren, John S. Haley, M. John Somers
  • Patent number: 4238039
Abstract: A wear member is provided for use between a pair of relatively movable components of a railway vehicle. The wear member is mounted on a support having a continuous supporting surface, with polymeric material having an antifriction wear surface to support the same against the continuous supporting surface while providing integral reinforcement for the polymeric material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 5, 1979
Date of Patent: December 9, 1980
    Assignee: Dayco Corporation
Inventors: Jerry W. Cooper, Homer N. Holden, Richard D. Medford, John S. Haley
  • Patent number: 4188888
Abstract: A wear-resistant liner for center plate structure of a railway vehicle is provided and such liner is defined by an ultra high molecular weight polymeric material having a reinforcement embedded in the polymeric material which serves as a matrix for and substantially completely surrounds the reinforcement and the reinforcement comprises a structure having openings therein for receiving the polymeric material completely therethrough and enabling better embedment of the structure, and such structure serves to reinforce and prevent cold flow of the polymeric material.
