  • Patent number: 6994577
Abstract: An electrical connector system includes a panel having a front face, a rear face, a hole through which a connector can mate with a complementary connecting device at the front face of the panel, and an opening spaced from the hole. A connector includes a dielectric housing insertable into the hole in the panel and mateable with the complementary connecting device at the front face of the panel. The housing mounts a plurality of terminals and is sized smaller than the hole to allow for controlled floating movement of the connector relative to the panel. At least one locking arm projects from the housing and has a locking protrusion for engagement in the opening in the panel to prevent excessive movement of the connector in a direction generally parallel to the panel. The opening is larger than the locking protrusion to allow for said controlled floating movement of the connector relative to the panel.

  • Patent number: 6986671
Abstract: An electrical connector is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board which includes a mounting surface, an opposite mating surface, a locating hole and a terminal-receiving aperture. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a front board-mounting face for mounting against the mounting surface of the printed circuit board. At least one terminal-receiving passage in the housing has a front opening in the front board-mounting face of the housing, with the front opening alignable with the terminal-receiving aperture in the printed circuit board. An alignment boss projects from the front board-mounting face of the housing and is insertable into the locating hole in the printed circuit board. The alignment boss has a guide hole for receiving a guide post from a complementary mating connector at the mating surface of the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5902155
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a shroud having side walls forming a receptacle defining a mating axis. A polarizing groove is disposed in one of the side walls extending generally parallel to the mating axis. A latch is disposed in the polarizing groove. A modular connector is insertable into the receptacle along the mating axis and includes a latch projection adapted for moving into the polarizing groove and latchingly engaging the latch of the shroud in the polarizing groove. Therefore, the latch projection on the modular connector cooperates with the polarizing groove and latch on the shroud to perform the dual function of providing a polarizing means and a latch means.

  • Patent number: 5807125
Abstract: A system is provided for mounting an electrical connector in a support structure. The connector includes a housing having a forward insertion end and a rearward mating end. The support structure includes an inner opening for receiving the forward insertion end of the housing and an outer opening for embracing the rearward mating end of the housing. A mounting structure provides limited floating movement of the mating end of the housing relative to the support structure to facilitate mating the connector with a complementary connector. The mounting structure at the insertion end of the housing fixed the insertion end of the housing against movement relative to the support structure.

  • Patent number: 5803765
Abstract: A surface mount electrical connector is adapted for mounting to the surface of a printed circuit board in either of two orientations generally perpendicular to each other. A molded dielectric housing has first and second board mounting faces disposed generally perpendicular to each other. A first boardlock-receiving passage is molded in the housing communicating with the first board mounting face and extending in a given direction which defines the direction of parting of a pair of mold dies for molding the housing. A second boardlock-receiving passage is molded in the housing generally perpendicular to the first passage and communicating with the second board mounting face. Each passage includes a set of bearing walls for engaging a boardlock member inserted into the respective passage, with no one bearing wall in either set thereof being in alignment with any other bearing wall in the other set thereof in said given direction.

  • Patent number: 5795185
Abstract: An electrical connector for mounting in a cutout in a generally planar panel. The connector includes a dielectric housing having guide projections on the side of the housing for slidably mounting the housing in the cutout in an insertion direction generally parallel to the plane of the panel. At least one latch projection on the housing extends therefrom in the insertion direction generally parallel to the plane of the panel for engaging an appropriate lock projecting from the panel.

  • Patent number: 5595509
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes an elongated housing having a plurality of terminal-receiving cavities extending transversely of the housing. The cavities are arranged in at least two rows lengthwise of the housing, and two rows of terminal-protective silos project forwardly of a front mating face of the housing in alignment with the cavities. Two generally parallel channels run longitudinally of the housing and intersect the two rows of cavities. A longitudinal solid wall portion of the front mating face of the housing extends lengthwise between the two rows of forwardly projecting silos. A plurality of slits are formed in the front mating face between adjacent silos in alignment with transverse walls between the cavities, the slits extending rearwardly to the channels. A plurality of terminals are adapted to be inserted into the cavities to fully inserted positions in the forwardly projecting silos.

  • Patent number: 5407363
Abstract: An electrical connector panel mounting system includes a panel having a given thickness between two surfaces and including an opening formed with at least one locating slot extending radially from the opening. A connector includes a dielectric housing insertable from one surface of the panel along an axis to an insertion position into the opening in the panel. The housing has at least one radially extending locating flange for passing through the locating slot of the opening as the housing is inserted thereinto. At least one radially extending stop flange is spaced axially and angularly from the locating flange for abutting the one surface of the panel and preventing further insertion of the housing when the locating flange clears the opposite surface of the panel. A limiting slot extends radially from the opening in the panel. The limiting slot is separate, independent and angularly spaced from the locating slot and has a given angular width.

  • Patent number: 5354218
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having generally rigid walls defining an elongated terminal-receiving passageway. At least one latch wall is disposed within and extends longitudinally of the passageway. The latch wall defines opposite longitudinal edges thereof, with one longitudinal edge being integrally joined to the generally rigid walls of the housing. The other longitudinal edge of the latch wall is free and projects into the passageway for transverse flexing about the one joined edge. A latch shoulder is provided on the latch wall at least on a flexing portion of the wall. A terminal is adapted to be inserted into the passageway. The terminal has a latch shoulder for snapping behind the latch shoulder of the latch wall to prevent removal of the terminal from the passageway.

  • Patent number: 5211572
Abstract: A security locking system is disclosed for use with an electrical connector which includes a latch device for latching the connector to a complementary mating electrical connector. The latch device has a depressible portion to effect unlatching of the device. The depressible portion has a vacant space therebeneath. A locking key is insertable in a given direction into the vacant space beneath the depressible portion to prevent unlatching of the latch device. Retaining shoulders are provided on the locking key, engageable with the connector, to prevent removal of the key opposite the given direction. The locking key is sufficiently flexible in a direction transverse to the given direction to effect disengagement of the retaining shoulders in response to bending the key transverse to the given direction. A stop of a given height is provided on the connector to prevent bending the locking key unless the key is lifted above the height of the stop.
