  • Patent number: 5808245
Abstract: An vertical mount catalytic converter muffler for use on a combustion engine is provided. The vertical mount catalytic converter includes a muffler body having an exhaust inlet, an exhaust outlet and a sound attenuator; a catalytic converter arrangement positioned within the muffler arrangement between the exhaust inlet and the exhaust outlet; and a water collector and diverter arrangement positioned within the muffler body between the catalytic converter arrangement and the exhaust outlet. The water collector and diverter arrangement can include a funnel cup and conduit arrangement which collects water which enters through the exhaust outlet or which condenses in the muffler body, and diverts the collected water away from the catalytic converter. The vertical mount catalytic converter muffler can be assembled without using a leakproof weld.

  • Patent number: 4969537
Abstract: A muffler assembly includes an inner outlet tube having a tubular portion, a frusto-conical portion and a flange portion having an expanded orifice facing the outlet of an inlet tube. Both the outlet tube and inlet tube extend within a chamber defined in an outer housing. The chamber is divided into two or more subchambers by a baffle which extends between the outlet tube and the housing. One or more holes in the baffle improve the sound attenuation characteristics of the muffler. The invention also comprehends a novel blank used in forming the outlet tube, and three alternative methods which may be used to form the outlet tube.

  • Patent number: 4580657
Abstract: An integral formed fluted tube intended, for example, for use as a sound suppression device in mufflers, exhaust ejectors, etc. is disclosed. The tube is formed of a cylindrical portion with generally circular inlets and outlets and a constricted portion between those ends and within the constriction, a plurality of bypasses therethrough. The constriction may also include a frontal portion having a generally concave surface which rises to an apex and thereafter forms a plurality of convex rear portions toward the outlet end. Other embodiments are shown in the Figures. The device may be used integrally within a muffler to obtain a venturi effect for an exhaust ejector and sound suppressor.
