  • Publication number: 20160297362
Abstract: A vehicle exterior viewing system is described. The displayed images represent the external environment around a vehicle. The displayed images are controlled by detecting at least one of the eye gaze and the head position of the driver. An exterior viewing imager system can produce the image data and can include a camera and a gimbal to support the camera. At least one display is adapted to display an exterior image from the imager system. A tracker system senses position and/or gaze of the driver. A controller receives data from the tracker and the imager system to change an image on the display based on data from the tracker. In an example, the imager system includes a driver-side imager positioned on a driver-side of the vehicle to provide a diver-side view of the vehicle and a passenger-side imager positioned on a passenger-side of the vehicle to provide a passenger-side view of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20160209224
Abstract: A ride-swap server may receive vehicle location information; and when vehicle swap information indicates a pending vehicle swap between a first vehicle assigned to a first user and a second vehicle assigned to a second user, provide a location of the first vehicle to a mobile device of the second user and provide a location of the second vehicle to a mobile device of the first user. A vehicle information server may receive vehicle information from a plurality of vehicles; identify, according to vehicle swap information, a swap start time of a user swapping from a first vehicle to a second vehicle; and compile driving statistics for the user using the vehicle information from the first vehicle before the swap start time and from the second vehicle after the swap start time.

  • Patent number: 9346400
Abstract: Data may be collected relating to autonomous operation of a vehicle. A first confidence assessment concerning whether the vehicle should operate autonomously may then be generated, and it may be determined whether the first confidence assessment meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold. An alert may be provided via a user interface in the vehicle relating to ending autonomous operation of the vehicle if the first confidence assessment meets or exceeds the predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 9296423
Abstract: The trailer backup assist system has a human machine interface coupled to a controller having a setup module, a calibration module, an activation module and a control module configured to receive trailer measurements, apply trailer measurements, activate and control vehicle systems to calibrate and implement a curvature control algorithm that controls the reverse movement of the vehicle-trailer combination in a manner consistent with a driver request. When incorrect trailer measurements have been entered, the trailer backup assist system recognizes the error, initiates a warning and requests corrective action to correct the trailer measurements. Default values for a maximum controllable curvature limit and a maximum controllable angle replace the limits calculated and applied by the calibration model that used incorrect trailer measurements, until corrected trailer measurements may be entered by the driver.

  • Patent number: 9283892
Abstract: A vehicle trailer backup assist system and method includes a hitch angle detection apparatus and a target monitor controller. The target monitor controller processes images acquired of the trailer towed by a towing vehicle to assist with placement of a target on the trailer. The target monitor controller also monitors the target and provides feedback to the user as to proper positioning of the target on the trailer. A target move detection routine detects movement of a target by processing the pixels of the image to determine if a new trailer has been connected. Further, a trailer connection monitoring routine monitors for a changed trailer based on loss of the hitch angle or target for a predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 9187124
Abstract: A trailer backup steering input apparatus provides a trailer steering information signal to a trailer backup assist control module of a vehicle through a signal interface thereof. The trailer steering information signal is configured for enabling the trailer backup assist control module to generate electrical steering commands for a steering system of the vehicle as a function of the trailer steering information signal. The trailer backup steering input apparatus is self-contained and physically detachable/detached form the vehicle. Advantageously, such a trailer backup steering input apparatus saves space, allows for greater flexibility with interior styling of the vehicle, and allows all drivers regardless of stature the ability to have the trailer backup steering input apparatus easily accessible while utilizing the trailer backup assist functionality of the vehicle.
