  • Patent number: 4979632
Abstract: A portable quick opening storage vessel for safely storing explosive materials is presented. The relatively small cylindrical container is equipped with flat end-plates and external retaining rods which absorb most of the explosive energy. Modifications include a quick open assembly for opening and closing the container.

  • Patent number: 4738314
Abstract: An ultra fast fusible link assembly with mechanical advantage is provided for controlling the release of loaded devices used in automatic fire fighting equipment wherein the assembly comprises a pair of interlocked mechanical members supporting the load and held together by a fusible link with sufficiently energy thereby when said link is broken said mechanical members fly apart to release said load.

  • Patent number: 4577544
Abstract: Fast acting actuation system which is especially suitable for automatic sprinklers and other emergency devices. The system includes a fast-acting low mass thermally responsive element comprising a pair of thin metal strips soldered together, a percussion member such as a firing pin which is released when the solder in the thermally responsive element melts, and an actuator, preferably a radially expandable explosive actuator, which is initiated by the firing pin. The actuator when initiated causes rapid actuation of the automatic sprinkler or other device.

  • Patent number: 4527634
Abstract: Vapor powered pump assembly for emergency use. The assembly comprises a pump, a vapor powered engine, a container for storing a volatile propellant in liquid form under pressure, a heat exchanger for transferring heat from the fluid (usually a liquid) being pumped to the propellant, and means for delivering propellant vapors from the heat exchanger to the engine. The container for propellant may be either a plurality of tubes, each closed at one end, inside the heat exchanger as in FIG. 1, or a separate vessel as in FIG. 2.

  • Patent number: 4466489
Abstract: Self-contained fire protection apparatus. The present apparatus comprises a first container for storing water or other liquid under atmospheric pressure, a discharge conduit from this container, and a second container having high surface to volume ratio for storing liquefied propellant under pressure. Communication between the first and second containers is prevented until the apparatus has to be used. Then the propellant transfer line connecting the two containers is opened, preferably by actuation of a valve controlling this line, allowing propellant vapors to flow into the first container and establish a pressure therein sufficient to cause discharge of the contents of the first container. Heat exchange between the water being discharged and the propellant is provided so that the propellant temperature and pressure do not drop appreciably as the propellant is being evaporated and transferred.

  • Patent number: 3971320
Abstract: An electric initiator, such as a detonator, primer or squib, has a plastic case, a metallic inner cup, an explosive charge and a coaxial plug assembly which includes a conductive pin, a conductive sleeve surrounding the pin and spaced therefrom, an insulator which is bonded to both the pin and the sleeve, and a bridge wire connecting the two electrodes. The initiator also includes two lead wires, one welded or soldered to each electrode. This initiator is easy to assemble automatically and is highly resistant to accidental firing by static electricity.
