Patent number: 11419956Abstract: A light fixture includes a housing defining a channel and an insert lighting module. The insert lighting module includes an insert housing, a visible light engine coupled to a bottom portion of the insert housing for emitting visible light for general illumination, and an auxiliary light module coupled to the insert housing and including an auxiliary light engine for emitting germicidal light effective in deactivating pathogens. A top portion of the insert lighting module may be positioned within the channel and the insert lighting module may be coupled to the housing. The auxiliary light module may be uncoupled and removed from the insert housing by performing the steps of: uncoupling the insert lighting module from the housing and removing the insert lighting module from the channel, and uncoupling the auxiliary light module from the insert housing and removing the auxiliary module from the top portion of the insert housing.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2021Date of Patent: August 23, 2022Assignee: ABL IP Holding LLCInventor: John T. Patent number: 9335031Abstract: A door assembly for a lighting fixture. Embodiments of the door assembly include a door frame defined by two frame sides and two frame ends that define a frame opening. A diffuser panel is positioned within the door frame to span the frame opening and a refractor extends along the length of the door frame. The refractor is retained on the door assembly at its ends. More specifically, in some embodiments an aperture having the profile of the refractor is provided in the end plate on each frame end. The ends of the refractor are inserted into the apertures of the end plates to retain the refractor on the door assembly by its ends.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2013Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: ABL IP Holding LLCInventors: John T. Patent number: 9335041Abstract: A light fixture includes a door frame, the door frame having at least one frame side and a reflector. The edge of the reflector engages a slot in the frame side, which includes at least one LED, to precisely position the reflector and the at least one LED relative to one another. The at least one frame side may also include a reflective kicker for reflecting light from the at least one LED onto the reflector. The reflector may include a semi-specular optical material, which specularly reflects some of the incoming light from the at least one LED and diffusely reflects other of the incoming LED light. The reflector may be collapsible for ease of transportation and shipping; the at least one frame side precisely positions the reflector and at least one LED during assembly and installation.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: May 10, 2016Assignee: ABL IP Holding LLCInventors: Craig Eugene Marquardt, Januk Swarup Aggarwal, Xin Zhang, John T. Publication number: 20160033088Abstract: A light emitting diode (“LED”) light module that can be installed in lighting fixtures—either new lighting fixtures or existing lighting fixtures already installed in the field. The LED light module includes a LED assembly mounted on a reflector. The LED light module is positioned in a light fixture housing to emit light from the fixture housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 30, 2015Publication date: February 4, 2016Inventors: John T. Mayfield, III, Forrest Starnes McCanless, Stephen Barry McCane

Patent number: 8960962Abstract: A ceiling mount lighting fixture includes a channel, a channel cover, and a light source including a plurality of light-emitting diodes. The channel cover includes two sides that intersect in a V-shaped base, with light-emitting diodes mounted on each side. The light-emitting diodes emit light at cone angles that overlap at the base of the channel cover. The fixture may include a diffuser and an end cap positioned on each end of the channel, each end cap including a groove. A plurality of strips may be located on the diffuser, each strip moveable from a first position on the diffuser a distance from the end caps to a second position in which the strip engages the groove on one of the end caps, thereby serving as a light trap to block light from exiting gaps between the diffuser and end caps.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: ABL IP Holding LLCInventors: Stephen Barry McCane, John T. Mayfield, III, Russell Vern Rouse
