  • Publication number: 20220104817
Abstract: A surgical device includes a jaw assembly, an articulating assembly and a drive shaft. The jaw assembly includes first and second jaws. The articulating assembly is removably coupled to a proximal end of the jaw assembly and includes a distal joint member, a proximal joint member, and a pivot pin. The pivot pin is fixedly coupled to the distal joint member and is rotatably coupled to the proximal joint member. The jaw assembly and the distal joint member together define a first longitudinal axis. The proximal joint member defines a second longitudinal axis. The drive shaft includes a gear element that is meshingly engaged with a pivoting gear element that is fixedly coupled to the pivot pin. Longitudinal movement of the first drive shaft pivots the jaw assembly relative to the proximal joint member about a pivot axis defined by the pivot pin.

  • Publication number: 20220015760
Abstract: A surgical stapling device includes tool assembly having an anvil and a cartridge assembly. The cartridge assembly includes a channel member that defines a cavity, a staple cartridge supported within the cavity of the channel member, and a biasing member. The staple cartridge supports staples, each having a back span and a pair of legs depending from the back span. The biasing member is positioned within the channel member and is deformable to allow the cartridge body to move vertically within the cavity of the channel member. The anvil incudes staple deforming pockets that are configured to deform the legs of the staples from a position within the same plane as the back span to positions laterally offset from the back span.

Abstract: A surgical instrument including a handle portion, a body portion, an articulating tool assembly and a locking assembly is disclosed. The handle portion includes a movable handle. The body portion extends distally from the handle portion and defines a first longitudinal axis. The articulating tool assembly defines a second longitudinal axis and is movable from a first position where the second longitudinal axis is substantially aligned with the first longitudinal axis to at least a second position where the second longitudinal axis is at an angle to the first longitudinal axis. The locking assembly includes a member that is advanceable distally with respect to the body portion. The member engages the articulating tool assembly upon manipulation of the movable handle to move an anvil and a cartridge assembly in approximation with one another to help maintain the articulating tool assembly in its first position.
