  • Patent number: 5528980
Abstract: The pop-up toaster has a toaster body provided with a slot for insertion of an article to be toasted, a toaster carriage for the article, electric toasting elements in an interior of the toaster body for toasting the article and a flame barrier device for preventing a flame produced by inadvertent combustion of the article from issuing from the slot while permitting escape of heated air from the slot. The flame barrier device can be made of wire gauze or expanded metal and is connectable to the toaster body for motion between a closed position closing the slot to prevent flame from issuing therefrom and at least one open position in which the article can be inserted into the interior through the slot. The flame barrier device can be connected to the toaster carriage so that it automatically closes when the article to be toasted is inserted in the toaster and automatically opens when the article has been toasted.

  • Patent number: 5138938
Abstract: A sandwich toaster or griller in which the upper die mold half is constituted by a plurality of flat sheets of glass or other suitable material having between them an electric heater element consisting of a flat nichrome wire or a printed element parallel lengths which extend across the sheets of glass. The spacing of the lengths of heater element is such as to provide a more or less uniform toasting effect on the surface of the sandwich, the toasting of which is visible through the glass or other transparent sheets.

  • Patent number: 4872764
Abstract: A beverage processing apparatus consisting of an outer housing having an upper portion and a lower portion which together form a closed processing vessel for containing a beverage mixture, the upper portion containing a driving motor that drives the shaft which has on it one or more processing blades, the invention being characterized by the fact that the blade or blades are pivotally attached to the shaft so as to be capable of folding up against the shaft as it is introduced into a mixture to be processed containing, for example, ice cubes, and thereafter under the influence of centrifugal force to take up a position substantially at right angles to the shaft to effect efficient processing. It is preferred that the or each blade has a surface upwardly inclined in relation to a plane at right angles to the axis of the shaft to promote folding of the blade in the event of it striking an obstacle during processing.

  • Patent number: 4700901
Abstract: A food processor which is rendered suitable for placing in a microwave oven by the replacement of the usual metal spring controlling a switch actuating member by a resilient member fabricated from a material such as silicone rubber that is not affected by microwave radiation. Such a food processor may be provided with a special lid having a downwardly extending member arranged to co-operate with the usual central sleeve of the container of the food processor so that a cake mixture prepared in the food processor can be baked in the container in which it is prepared, the depending member preventing overflow of the cake mixture through the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4685479
Abstract: A device for heating hair curling rollers consisting of an attachment for a hair dryer of the small portable type which is frictionally attached to the barrel of the hair dryer so that heated air from the dryer passes through the attachment. The attachment is arranged to support a number of hair curling rollers of a conventional type and to direct air from the hair dryer into and around the rollers to heat them to a working temperature. The usual heat indicating spot provided on each roller may be applied to the exterior of the attachment. As an adjunct to the attachment an adaptor is provided to enable the attachment to be attached to hair dryers having barrels of different external diameters. A fan is preferably included in the attachment to assist in even distribution of heated air over the hair curling rollers.

  • Patent number: 4458139
Abstract: An electrically heated cooking utensil consisting of a base incorporating an electrically heated heating plate (13) having a flat upper surface and a utensil such as a frying pan (10) dutch oven or wok having a handle (11) the bottom (12) of the utensil being flat and in use lying in close contact with the heating plate (13) the utensil and the base having on them interengaging elements (23), (16) such that when the bottom of the utensil is placed on the base movement of one of said interengaging elements (23), (16) causes the elements to interlock so that the base and the utensil are interconnected in such a manner that the utensil and base can be lifted together by use of the handle and so that the utensil can be detached from the base while the base is resting on a supporting surface. Preferably interengaging elements (23) on the base are moveable by means of a lever (19) projecting beyond the base.

  • Patent number: 4240338
Abstract: An improved food processor including a citrus fruit juice extraction unit, and an attachment for a food processor for the extraction of juice from citrus fruit, are disclosed. The attachment consists of an annular trough-like member fitting within the cylindrical food processing container amounted on the base of the food processor. The annular trough-like member has a circumferential flange which rests on the upper edge of the container and supports the trough-like member therein. The trough-like member has apertures in the bottom thereof to permit the passage of citrus fruit juice while restraining passage of pulp and pips associated with the juice. The trough-like member includes means such as a cam which are arranged to cooperate with an electric switch for the food processor motor so that the food processor motor cannot be actuated without the trough-like member being in predetermined rotational relationship with the food processor base and food processing container located thereon.

  • Patent number: 4150609
Abstract: A small cooking apparatus intended for domestic use in the grilling of steaks, hamburgers and other foodstuffs consisting of a base and a cover which are hingedly connected there being mounted in each an electric heating element embedded in a block of metal such as aluminium adapted to constitute a heat sink. Associated with which is a removable cooking plate of light washable construction which is maintained in intimate contact with the heat sink so as to ensure maximum transfer of heat. The light construction of the cooking plate and the fact that they do not incorporate heating elements facilitates washing of the plates. The plates are preferably provided with insulated handles and the cover is preferably mounted so as to be capable of tilting about its mid line to accommodate foodstuffs of different thickness.
