  • Patent number: 4731014
Abstract: A mold, typically an injection mold, comprises a cavity member and a core member relatively movable between open and closed positions to define a first parting line and a molding chamber between the core and cavity members in the closed position. A sprue aperture is provided, communicating with the molding chamber to provide molding compound to the chamber. In accordance with this invention the cavity member defines forward and rearward portions movable between open and closed positions and proportioned whereby objects molded in the molding chamber can be removed from between the forward and rear portions when the cavity member is in its open position.

  • Patent number: 4706926
Abstract: A mold comprising mold halves separable along a parting line has a rotating lifting handle carried by one of the mold halves, where the handle rotates between a first position in which it lies generally flat against the mold and a second position in which it extends outwardly from the mold to permit engagement by a lifting hook or the like. By this invention, rotation of the lifting handle from the first to the second position is prevented when the mold halves are separated along the parting line by more than a predetermined distance. Thus the mold cannot be lifted, since the handle cannot be rotated into outwardly extending position to receive the hook until the mold is closed. Additionally, this invention may be used to prevent opening of the parting line between the mold halves when in closed relation, while the handle is in the second position.

  • Patent number: 4706838
Abstract: A molded wall carries a pull fitting which may be improved by this invention as follows: the pull fitting defines a tubular wall having an axis transverse to the molded wall, with the tubular wall being connected to the molded wall outside of the tubular wall by an annular, thin film of wall material integrally connected to both the tubular wall and the outside molded wall. The tubular wall also defines, on its outer surface, an annular groove proportioned in size and shape to receive in snap-fit relation an annular edge of the outside, molded wall which is exposed upon severing of the annular, thin film and removing the fitting. Thus, the fitting may be reattached to the molded wall.

  • Patent number: 4702456
Abstract: A mold comprises at least two separable parts defining at least one parting line. In this invention, a passageway is defined in one of the separable parts, while a pin, positioned in the passageway, is secured to another of the separable parts. The passageway and pin extend essentially in the direction that the separable parts move to open and close their parting line. A slot is defined in the separable part that defines the passageway, the slot communicating between the passageway and the exterior of the mold. When the mold is closed, a portion of the pin occupies the slot. Accordingly, lifting means can enter the slot to engage the pin when the mold is closed, for lifting thereof, and longitudinal movement of the pin in the slot can be prevented, to lock the mold, while the pin is so engaged.

  • Patent number: 4653669
Abstract: A molded plastic container comprises an outer container having a first end wall portion. A tubular member extends from end to end through the interior of the container. The end wall portion defines a first annular area of weakness, the tubular member communicating with the end wall adjacent the first annular area of weakness. The user may apply longitudinal pressure on the end of the tubular member opposite to the end wall to rupture the first annular area and to permit the tubular member to slidingly advance out of the container interior through the ruptured area of the end wall, to serve as a pouring spout.

  • Patent number: 4648834
Abstract: An outer mold half and a mold core define as part of the mold cavity an annular chamber portion for receiving molding compound to form an outwardly projecting, relatively thick annular section in the molded object. Stripper means push newly formed molded objects out of intimate contact with the mold core. The diameter of a portion of the mold core across which the annular section is pushed by the stripper means is less than the diameter of the mold core portion against which the annular section is formed. Accordingly, the cooling, freshly molded annular section can shrink inwardly and be drawn out of the annular chamber portion, for removal from the mold without the need of side action.

  • Patent number: 4476083
Abstract: The following specification describes a stop boss formed on the handle of a pail by means of a pair of slides located behind a skirt wall of the pail with the handle passing through a slot in the skirt wall, which is closed by a flange wall formed by the slides. The slides are movably carried in guides by a ring member and are received in a recess of another ring member which conventionally forms the annular pail wall. The guides enable the slides to move laterally toward each other in response to downward movement of the carrying ring member, to define the cavities for forming the stop boss and the flange wall closing the skirt wall slot. On completion of the mold cycle and upward movement of the ring member carrying the slides, the guides move the slides laterally apart to release the stop boss and the flange wall. The slides are then moved from between the skirt and pail walls to enable the pail to be released from the mold.

  • Patent number: 4380422
Abstract: A gate for a mold comprises a plunger member mounted in the molding compound inlet conduit and adapted to prevent flow through the conduit in a first longitudinal position and to permit flow through the conduit in second longitudinal positions. The plunger defines an enlarged sealing end which is proportioned to prevent flow through the conduit on the first position. The sealing end defines a mold cavity-facing surface which is of larger cross-sectional area than the surface of the plunger opposed to the mold chamber and subject to contact with pressurized molding compound in the compound. The plunger member is longitudinally expansible and contractible so that even though one end may be rigidly mounted in the conduit, the enlarged sealing end is longitudinally movable to open and close the mold gate in a manner purely responsive to pressures therein. Thus, spontaneous gating of a mold may be provided.
