  • Patent number: 4094801
Abstract: Magnesium-containing complexes are prepared by heating a mixture of magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide, hydrated magnesium oxide or a magnesium alkoxide; a carboxylic acid, a sulfonic acid, a pentavalent phosphorus acid, or an ester or salt of any of these; water; and an organic solubilizing agent (which may be liquid or solid at ambient temperature) for the acid or ester. The amount of magnesium is such as to provide a basic composition. The resulting complexes may be obtained in liquid (which may be thickened) or solid form, and are useful as additives for lubricants and fuels and as protective coating compositions for metal surfaces (such as automotive undercoats and frame coatings).
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 18, 1977
Date of Patent: June 13, 1978
    Assignee: The Lubrizol Corporation
    Inventor: John Wesley Forsberg
  • Patent number: 4028226
Abstract: Used oil is rerefined by diluting it with a water-soluble polar diluent and removing insoluble impurities from the resulting solution, adding water to produce a two-phase system, separating the organic phase and removing the polar diluent therefrom. By this method, it is possible to recover oil which still contains viscosity modifying additives and the like. If desired, the rerefined oil can be subjected to further treatment such as hydrogenation.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 7, 1977
    Assignee: The Lubrizol Corporation
    Inventor: John Wesley Forsberg
  • Patent number: 3968791
Abstract: An orthopedic bandage for immobilizing or supporting portions of the body comprises a flexible carrier supporting a cast-forming composition comprising diacetone acrylamide and a water-insoluble condensation product of formaldehyde and diacetone acrylamide. The cast-forming composition may also contain fillers. The bandage is preferably prepared for use by dipping in water in the presence of a catalyst for initiating polymerization of the diacetone acrylamide and condensation product and then wrapping the body portion to be immobilized. The initiator may be a part of the bandage and may either be incorporated in the cast-forming composition or coated on the surface of the bandage.
